EDM Identity’s Top Tracks Of 2016

EDM Identity Staff by EDM Identity Staff
December 27, 2016
in Culture, Playlists

As we close out the year, it is time for us to look back and reflect on our favorites from 2016. Check out which tracks stood out to EDM Identity Team Members this year!

Albums, Artists, Events, they all can be fairly easy to narrow down to what the top few are from your year. Tracks, on the other hand, are a monumental feat to select from. Why? Well aside from the fact that websites such as SoundCloud and streaming services like Spotify have allowed for a boom in releases, it does seem as if more tunes are being released every year. Gone are the days when an artist would release a minimal amount of music, owning up to the sounds that they push and perfecting the tune before it is fully released. So, for someone who likes many different genres, or a wide range of artists, the task of narrowing things down to five tracks that are “the best” of the year can seem like an insurmountable task. We have done our best here at EDM Identity to do this, and I’m sure that many of us have forgotten a tune or two along the way. Check out the playlist and find out our favorites below!

Grant’s Picks

  1. “Never Be Like You” – Flume
  2. “Beneath With Me” – Kaskade x Deadmau5
  3. “Strobe” (Dimension Remix) – Deadmau5
  4. “Innerbloom” (Lane 8 Remix) – RÜFÜS DU SOL
  5. “Tell Me” – it’s different x Helen

It is insanely hard to narrow this down to five but hopefully you find that my five represent some epic tunes that were released this year. Sure, there is an absence of some genres like trance or dubstep on here, but these are the tracks that I found myself replaying the most.

Drew’s Picks

  1. “Memory Lane” – Kyau & Albert

  3. “Save Me” – Gareth Emery feat. Christina Novelli
  4. “Don’t Let Me Down” – The Chainsmokers feat. Daya
  5. “Purple Lamborghini” – Skrillex & Rick Ross

I think we need to pay respect to the artists who help crossover electronic music into the mainstream. Both The Chainsmokers and Skrillex this year released catchy songs that made their ways into pop culture through the radio and movies. On the other hand, Trance heavyweights continue to produce quality tracks that I come back to every year.
