The Wait is Over For Desert Hearts Black Best of 2022

Desert Hearts Black had a glowing 2022, and it’s time to relive the soundscape with their Best Of compilation featuring Marbs, Rinzen, and More!

House, techno, and love, with a hefty dose of dark attitude, is what the Desert Hearts Black imprint is all about. Ever since Marbs and Evan Casey’s brainchild manifested back in 2019 with Torus, DHB took off on a quest to send chills up the spine with intricate sweeping melodics, guttural bassline kicks, and enchantingly peculiar sound details. Come 2022, and the young label had rightfully established itself as one of the most unique in a sea of house and techno imprints throughout the US and maybe even the world. Today, we get to relive one of their best years to date with Desert Hearts Black Best Of 2022!

Let’s take a look at the layout of the talent featured in the package. Of course, we can’t have a proper DHB compilation without Marbs himself. Listeners get to enjoy his presence a whopping four times, two of which are collaborations with Enamour and Michael Hooker. Those two have become quite the repeat offenders, and “Gate & Switch” and “Control Warning” nail down the fact that DHB struck gold when they pulled them into their grasp. We also see Rinzen grab a couple of spots, and while he’s been wowing fans from the very beginning, “Passive Aggressive Robot” might honestly be his best offering to date.

Now, a compilation wouldn’t be complete without a few spins on the original. In addition to Fur Coat resetting “RESET” and Aaron Suiss developing divine rework capabilities deep “From Within,” Oscar L’s dizzying remix of “Needed Time” checks all the boxes for a great time. The world was also treated to a glistening group of DHB debuts last year, including D-Nox, Stereo Underground, Sydney Blu, Quenum, Mikah, and Frankllin. Each of their offerings sits firm in the seductive late-night/after-hours pocket, and we can only hope they stay right here with the DHB family.

Finally, we see our 2023 Artist To Watch, Rïa Mehta, come back around since first gracing the label with Realms Of Darkness in 2021, this time with the cerebral soundwaves of “Arcane.” While this is just a tiny taste of all who made Desert Hearts Black the place to quench all your dancefloor desires last year, it clearly represents the genius that runs deep within the label’s curators, and there’s more to come as we dive deeper into 2023.
