As 2022 begins to wind down, there’s nothing better than looking in the rearview mirror and clinging to the special musical moments that kept the feet moving and the bodies grooving. When it comes to A State Of Trance, they always love to make a massive impression, and thanks to the colorful work of the immensely talented artists that graced the imprint this year, Armin van Buuren was able to gather up just a “few tunes.” By a few, we mean quite an enormous amount as A State Of Trance Year Mix 2022 offers 109 tracks curated with a sense of unity in mind!

The annual ASOT year mix album has always been a highlight for me and my fans; you could feel the harmony during the special four-hour livestream I did on Discord as I created the year mix. We all share a boundless love for (trance) music, and especially now, it’s important for everyone to focus on the things that connect us rather than the things that divide us. 2022 was a great year for trance music with lots of amazing tracks getting released, and I hope this means we stand united for 2023.

This year’s offering marks the 19th edition of the compilation, and it’s emotionally energizing to see that the package has doubled in size since kicking off back in 2004. Simply running through the tracklist will bring you face-to-face with the brightest musical minds the planet has to offer, including Hardwell, Orjan Nilsen, Markus Schulz, Above & Beyond, Ben Gold, Ciaran McAuley, Bryan Kearney, Richard Durand, and the list goes on! Along the way, you’ll find a lovely spattering of remixes as well, like Joris Voorn’s remix of Eelke Kleijn’s “Transmission” and Reorder’s remix of “Forever” by The Space Brothers.

While many of the tracks will get you club-ready, there are plenty of moments that pull hard on the heartstrings, including Factor B’s In Loving Memory Of Ellie Gray Remix of “How Long,” a tribute to his fiance who lost her battle with cancer this year. And that brings us to the theme of unity, reminding us that through great music and community, we can surely find peace and healing. With the current chapter closing, it’s now time to look forward to the coming year, and nestled within the borders lies ASOT’s 2023 anthem, “Reflection,” by Armin van Buuren and Cosmic Gate. So, let’s follow that lead as we raise a glass to 2022 and dance our way into a happy new year!
