In honor of #TranceGiving, aka Dreamstate SoCal, we want attendees to have the opportunity to get to know the talent who will be our “Trancegiving Tour Guides”.

Each week, we will feature bios of DJs who will take the stage at Dreamstate SoCal this year, as well as some beats to help familiarize you with their work. Next in our series is… Sonic Species!

Don’t forget to check out the other artist bios in our series to get familiar with the rest of the new artists on the lineup!

As one of the leaders of the Psytrance movement, Sonic Species has continually impressed many in the trance community with his sets and releases.

Joe Markendale, better known around the world as Sonic Species, has taken the Psytrance world by storm with a slew of releases that have left listeners coming back for more. His infectious, signature sound is the perfect example of how an artist can truly dominate a genre.

Making a serious mark on the scene with the release of his debut album Unleash The Beat back in 2012, Sonic Species has brought us lots of solid music since. Tracks like “Trance Is Life”, “Tokyo Sunrise”, and “Just Another Freak” are all must-listens for those looking to experience a proper psytrance ride to other dimensions.

Not afraid to collaborate, Sonic Species has also recently released tracks like “Numinous” with Pogo and “Horizon” with Symbolic. Tastemakers in the Psytrance scene have taken notice too, and his signing to legendary Nano Records only further proved that he is doing everything right with his otherworldly beats.

Of course, like many other artists in the trance scene, his talents are not limited to his work as Sonic Species. Joe has also come together on a project with Avalon dubbed Future Frequency, who you can catch at this year’s edition of Dreamstate SoCal as well!

Listen to Sonic Species at Ozora One Day in Tokyo for a taste of his style:

Taking the stage at festivals and clubs around the globe, Sonic Species has found himself playing everywhere from India to South Africa and of course his home base in the United Kingdom. This year he also has played at Wonderland in Brasil and at Psychedelic Rave presents Nano Records during ADE Week last month, blowing crowd after crowd away with his psy-fueled sets.

With a second album due out in 2018, we can’t wait to see what Sonic Species has in store for us at Dreamstate SoCal. Don’t miss out on his debut performance and don’t forget to catch some of his set with Avalon as Future Frequency too!
