Join the EDM Identity Team as we highlight the artists playing in September at The Gorge for ABGT250!
ABGT250 marks a special occasion: it’s the first-ever Above & Beyond weekender, and we wanted to do something to commemorate the experience. Each week leading up to the event, we will feature two of the artists on the lineup, along with some recent releases or mixes so you can get to know their sound. Next in our series is… YOTTO!
Don’t forget to check out the other artist bios in our series to get hyped for what is certain to be one of the best weekends of the year!
YOTTO is one of Anjunadeep’s most beloved artists.
Since joining the electronic artist ranks back in 2014, YOTTO, real name Otto Yliperuttula, has been on a journey stocked full of house, deep house, and techno beats. Born to a musical family in Helsinki, Finland, YOTTO, has been surrounded by different styles and genres his entire life. His diverse background led to an emotional, atmospheric sound which has taken the house music scene by storm, gaining a following around the globe. One of the first tracks that caught the ear of many was a remix of Pierce Fulton’s massive tune “Kuaga”, which was released on CR2 Records, a debut of what was to come from the aspiring artist.
Joining the Anjunadeep Family in 2015 with the release of “Memento” / “Azzurro”, he hasn’t slowed down since.
The debut on Anjunadeep was followed by the release of his EP, Wondering, which also grabbed the attention of many in the house scene. The lead track of the EP, also titled “Wondering”, actually featured vocals from CAPS who happens to be YOTTO’s younger brother. After this release, it was clear that he was at the forefront of the experimental house scene, and began to receive some love from other influential tastemakers and artists in the scene.
YOTTO continued to release amazing track after track on the label, with notable releases being “Personal Space”, “The Owls”, and most recently “Wilderness Girl”. These were paired with his remixes that were also otherworldly, paying homage to tracks like RUFUS’s “Like An Animal” and Dusky’s “Long Wait”. We actually selected YOTTO as one of our top house artists to watch in 2017, and he sure has left us stunned already.
If you haven’t listened to one of his summer or winter mixes, you’re truly missing out.
Of course, a great house artist also can seriously move crowds from behind the decks, and YOTTO does so masterfully. His mixes are some of the best to dance, drive, or just simply chill out to and are filled to the brim with emotion. His set at #ABGT200 at the Ziggodome in Amsterdam made us only want to catch more of him, and this year he has made a serious mark on the festival circuit. Taking the stage at festivals like Coachella, The BPM Festival, and CRSSD Festival this season alone, it is clear that we’re not the only ones who can tell he is truly an amazing artist.
One of my personal favorite mixes from YOTTO are his Summer and Winter Mixes that he releases annually. They are always great listening whether you’re actually playing the mix out during the season or later down the road.
