Join the EDM Identity Team as we highlight the artists playing in September at The Gorge for ABGT250!
ABGT250 marks a special occasion: it’s the first-ever Above & Beyond weekender, and we wanted to do something to commemorate the experience. Each week leading up to the event, we will feature two of the artists on the lineup, along with some recent releases or mixes so you can get to know their sound. Next in our series is… Genix!
Don’t forget to check out the other artist bios in our series to get hyped for what is certain to be one of the best weekends of the year!
Genix has built up a reputation as a dynamic artist with cutting edge production and energetic DJ sets.
UK-based Genix is a refreshing addition to the AGBT lineup as his style differs from many of the other artists. Though he had been on the scene for sometime before, he made his mark in 2005. That year, Genix achieved a Guinness World Record for the longest DJ set in history – an impressive 84-hours long! In 2007, he dropped his debut track, “Phuse” and since then has released beautiful tech and uplifting tracks.
Having played all over the world, Genix does not plan to stop. His versatile style is seen in his ability to lay down eclectic funky beats while also creating uplifting, euphoric melodies. He once said, “I just make sounds that I personally like and I don’t care too much if other people don’t like it! It reflects me!”
His music has taken him to some of the world’s most famous clubs such as Ministry of Sound, Passion, and Amnesia. Genix’s talent has been recognized by numerous artists and he has received support from radio stations and podcasts such as BBC, A State of Trance, and Trance Around the World.
Not only can he make incredibly dynamic original songs, but Genix is also a master of the remix.
He has worked on multiple massive remix tracks, such as Markus Schulz’s “Fly to Colours” and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Waiting 4”. He has released these tracks on a diverse breadth of labels such as Ministry of Sound, Armada, Nebula, and Spinnin’. Although he has had great success with remixes, his passion is for creating his own music – something that really shows when you listen to his original tracks.
Genix has noted he was inspired by big names in trance and electronica such as Judge Jules, Armin Van Buuren, and Sander Van Doorn. Their inspirations can be heard in his unique blend of tech, trance, progressive, and electro beats. His sounds have enabled him to play in lineups alongside his idols and other main players in the electronic world.
Most recently, Genix played a fantastic set at Luminosity Beach Festival 2017. His tracklist was jam-packed with Above and Beyond and Anjuna favorites which made the crowd roar. I wouldn’t expect anything less at ABGT 250!
Tickets for Above & Beyond Group Therapy 250 are still available but going fast! And don’t forget your camping passes while you are at it!
