Join the EDM Identity Team as we highlight the artists playing in September at The Gorge for ABGT250!

ABGT250 marks a special occasion: it’s the first-ever Above & Beyond weekender, and we wanted to do something to commemorate the experience. Each week leading up to the event, we will feature two of the artists on the lineup, along with some recent releases or mixes so you can get to know their sound. Next in our series is… Moon Boots!

Don’t forget to check out the other artist bios in our series to get hyped for what is certain to be one of the best weekends of the year!

Moon Boots has been taking the house music scene to new heights since launching his career.

The Brooklyn-born Pete Dougherty is an artist that has been on my radar for years now. Having stumbled upon him back in 2014 I immediately fell in love with his style of house that infected my eardrums. I first caught Moon Boots at Summer Set Music Festival that year, and seeing him again at Beyond Wonderland Bay Area solidified my love for him as an artist. His track “Don’t Ask Why” was on constant repeat and in all my playlists, and I could tell that he was on to a seriously bright future going forward.

The story didn’t begin in 2014 though, as Moon Boots has been on a journey his entire life to land his sounds in your eardrums today.

Flashing back to his roots in Brooklyn, Moon Boots began his musical journey at a young age. Testing the waters with piano and synthesizers, he explored the realm of different genres and sounds for years before really kicking off his career. Following his passion for house music, he put his engineering degree on hiatus to move to Chicago, a house music mecca. Dropping many demos, playing shows, and even touring with hip hop artist Lupe Fiasco as part of a synth-pop trio were all part of the road ahead before he finally double downed on DJing.

Not limiting himself to a specific genre or style, Moon Boots has a sound that anyone can fall in love with.

Continuing to release jam after jam and bringing the heat with his vibey sets and mixtapes, Moon Boots has been on a meteoric rise over the past few years. Joining the ranks of French Express, he learned more from mentor Perseus as he developed his own signature style that would inevitably dominate the speakers around the country. Blending elements of other mellow genres that he loves ranging from jazz to soul, and of course that quality house groove, he gets dance floors moving and grooving all night long with sets that you just simply don’t want to end.

After the disbandment of the former label he was associated with and moving back to Brooklyn, Moon Boots found himself in the company of Anjunadeep. The label itself focuses on the deeper side of house music, and the addition of Moon Boots has been a welcome one with the release of his debut LP, First Landing being well received by tastemakers all over the world. Listen for yourself below, and get a taste of what’s in store from Moon Boots at ABGT250 this September!

Grant Gilmore’s authoritative voice as a media professional lends credibility not common to EDM journalism. As the founder of EDM Identity he has effectively raised the bar on coverage of the past decade’s biggest youth culture phenomenon. After ten years of working for nonprofit organization Pro Player Foundation, Gilmore launched EDM Identity as a media outlet offering accurate informative coverage of the rave scene and electronic music as a whole. Although they cover comprehensive topic matter, they have taken special care in interviewing the likes of Armin van Buuren, Adventure Club, Gorgon City, Lane 8 and Afrojack.
