Like a soft kiss from the one you love most, Lensa welcomes me with the warm embrace of “Tillson”.
I always love when the first track on a compilation album is one full of bold character and uplifting melody and “Tillson” is everything I dream of and more. It prepares my body, mind, and soul for the heavenly quest that is sure to leave me breathless in its wake. It’s important to remember that dance music comes in many forms. Some may be rowdy, energetic, and full of foot shuffling steam that gets us swinging from the rafters. Others, like “Tillson”, have a calming effect on the soul, whisking us away to dance with mystical spirits as we get in touch with our inner peace.
Elliptical Sun Music 03 is full of these graceful art forms as tracks like Snade’s “Network” and Odison & Twenty Three’s “Amalthea” remind me that we can enjoy the sounds of progressive house and trance both on and off the dance floor. And of course, there are the darker entities that would like to come out to whisper their biddings through my subconscious, adding another layer of excitement as I travel along the path of musical discovery.
Take “Dark Sky” by LTN and Ghostbeat, for example. This was the first deep selection that has inspired my goosebumps to stand in salute. As the track billows and simmers I watch the sun dip below the horizon and I feel like I become linked with my environment in a way that can only be described as hypnotic and sublime. Once again I am taken aback by the power that oozes from my speakers in such a way that requires zero bells and whistles.
Of course, Adrian Alexander would leave room for some dance floor ready selections, primed to set our nightlife ablaze!
Abaze’s “Perpetua” is the first of a hand full of tracks that I believe would be the perfect addition to any club set as the sweet kick of the rhythm offers just enough drive to set the tone for a one on one entanglement on the dance floor. But, as Nick Hayes follows up our romance session with the intense flavor of “Metrolink”, Francesco Sambero sweeps in with the energized groove of “Transparencies” and Jeff Ozmits blows my mind with his remix of Chris Giuliano’s “Take Me”, I find that the peak hour selections have arrived to cast an eclipse that drips with profound layers of sound dynamics.
One of the stand out tracks on this album definitely has to be Chris Giuliano’s “Dream You”. The perfect selection for any type of gathering both day and night, this track offers up supreme lyrics that dance atop a driving rhythm both sultry and quirky all at the same time. And as I near the end of disc one, the last five tracks hold me in a pocket of elation that speaks volumes to the character that Elliptical Sun looks for in every track that they sign.
From Francesco Sambero’s “Sphinx” all the way to the final disc one selection, Quizzow’s “Era Of Tomorrow”, the vibes continue to travel up to the peak of raw emotional release. But, have we reached the pinnacle? I will leave it to disc two to answer that question.
One disc down and I begin to understand that Elliptical Sun has harnessed something very special within their team of talent!
I find that I have moved from pure hypnotic bliss all the way to strapping on my dancing shoes as I bop around my living room to the infectious beats. And as we kick off round two of Elliptical Sun Music 03 I am swept away to meet up with my emotions once more as Bryn Liedl & Adrian Alexander’s “Brighter Days” (Intro Edit) brings a tear to my eye. It is tracks like this one that make me so happy to be alive. And it is music with the ability to make me feel emotions that I didn’t even know were locked deep inside me that keeps me coming back to this beautiful genre.
Enter in dStarr’s “Insight” and I realize that there is so much more to enjoy on my Elliptical Sun journey as my feet begin to come alive once more. And then it happens. Adrian Alexander jumps in to say hello with “Sense Of The Wild”, one of my favorite Adrian Alexander tracks and for good reason! This is a tune that packs a punch all the while setting the tone with a melody that has me reaching high to the heavens.
And away we goooooo! The Antipodes amp things up even more with “Odyssey” and at this moment I am drawn to the elite style of track selections that sees this compilation build from highly emotional to extremely power packed on both discs. This nods to Adrian Alexander and his understanding that music is meant to be heard, felt, and experienced. Take me on a ride! There is nothing worse than when you find a music compilation that seems disjointed in its flow. Well, have no fear because Adrian understands that tenfold.
The next block of tracks begin in the dark but emerge with a light that leaves me sweaty and completely fulfilled.
Are you looking for music with a little bit of edge? Nikhil Prakash & Jeff Ozmits have you covered with “Flip Script”, a track that takes me for a dive into the underworld. And why not stay a while? If Thomas Mengel has anything to say about it, I am going to be locked in for one hell of a crunchy synth ride as “Sixtus” keeps me mingling with the spirits of the dark.
Suddenly, I begin to see the light as I am called back to reality by Paul Arcane & EMATA as “Freya” lends me a hand to emerge from the trenches. Now floating above the horizon my soul is completely free as the playful melody provides the wings I need to soar above all the stress in the world. To follow up my uplifting escape, Emerge materializes with “Closer To You” (Dub Mix) featuring the angelic voice of Sally Oh. I am now in the midst of yet another Elliptical Sun Music 03 artistic facelift that has me wanting to sing my approval from the mountaintops.
Just like what was seen in disc one, the last group of tracks hit the mark, filling me with all the required elements that make for one hell of a progressive trance soundscape. Nikhil Prakash’s “Where We Belong”, Adrian Alexander’s “Foreign Territory”, and Sodality’s “Saturn V” lift me high above the horizon delivering me to the stars where I travel in etherial wonderment, not wanting to come back down for even a second.
As I approach the landing strip there are three final tracks that sum up Elliptical Sun Music 03, placing a well-deserved bow on a package that has me in complete awe.
Allowing the lyrics of Adrian Alexander’s “Feel You” remixed by East & Atlas and the pounding anthematic bassline of Leo Lauretti’s “INCA” to settle deep within my heart I discover that Elliptical Sun Recordings will always and forever be a brand that I will follow like a bloodhound on a scent. I have to admit, before my interview with Adrian Alexander, Elliptical Sun Recordings wasn’t even on my radar. On the other side of the token, that is why I love to do what I do. I get to discover new music that may have slipped through my field of vision. And as Emme leads me out with the pounding of the drums on “Colours”, I have found my true and unwavering happy place.
