Insomniac’s Dreamstate SF returns for another epic weekend of trance on May 27 – 28.
As we near summer and the month of EDC Las Vegas, Insomniac’s biggest NorCal trance event returns with some of the biggest artists in the genre to San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for Dreamstate San Francisco. I’m excited to be attending to my first Dreamstate SF after being blown away by Dreamstate SoCal back in November of last year. Having to only deal with one stage and therefore have zero conflicting artists is something I’m looking forward to. The 2017 edition of this two-day trance experience comes with some familiar names from last year’s lineup and some new trance names too. The question is: are you ready for Dreamstate SF? Check out my selections of who to watch below!

Lisa’s Top Picks at Dreamstate SF 2017
Markus Schulz presents Dakota
After reading our recent interview with Markus Schulz, I am excited to see him present Dakota. I have seen and read some interesting interviews about Schulz talking about Dakota and how this album was inspired by dark events that happened in 2016. I am a strong believer I that some of the most powerful songs created are derived from the most personal of moments. Schulz also explained how the new Dakota material is known as the “Nine Skies,” which represent the “nine steps we all go through to reach enlightenment in life.” Schulz hinted the show would be presented live with music and art coming together. I look forward to seeing Dakota for the first time and listening to the darker side of Schulz.
Ferry Corsten (Producer’s Set)
One of my first and favorite, Ferry Corsten songs is “L.E.F,” which stands for Loud Electronic Ferocious. Corsten’s tracks always have a certain electronic lightness to them for me when I am playing his tracks. Corsten recently announced Blueprint to be his 5th album title and also released the album title as a free track for fans. It will be interesting to see if the set for Dreamstate SF to be more songs off the new album being played or will it be a true producer’s set. Based off a SoundCloud set from three years ago, Corsten’s producer’s set combined music from his other aliases such as System F and Gouryella. Perhaps Corsten will add some New World Punx tracks to his Dreamstate set considering Schulz, the other half of New World Punx, is performing at Dreamstate SF too.
PureNRG
PureNRG is a Trance powerhouse made up of Giuseppe Ottaviani and Solarstone. Their newest track, “Prophecy,” was the anthem for Australia’s Istoria this year. They revealed on Armin van Buuren’s ASOT how it was one of the first songs they created and collaborated on over the internet rather than in person. They were one of my favorite acts of Future Sound of Egypt at the Palladium back in July 2016. I’m looking forward to just seeing what tracks they’ll be playing and maybe drop their remix of “Opus”, or will their set be Pure energy and Pure trance only? One thing is for sure, they’ll definitely keep us dreamers dancing.
Binary Finary
After their open-to-close show at Spin Nightclub, I am a big fan of Binary Finary. I love how the set had very little vocals and was purely music with no gimmicks. It felt like a trance only classic trance only night. Though they are not playing an open to close-set in SF, they’ll be one of the few classic trance artists on the lineup. Check out their Dreamstate SoCal set for a sneak peek at what they could be playing at Dreamstate SF.
Ben Nicky
For some reason, I always end up missing a Ben Nicky set at an event. I’m hoping I won’t have to for Dreamstate 2017. What I like about Nicky his wide range of song selections. I can always count on his sets to be filled with tracks and seamlessly woven together for an energetic performance. Not to mention, I’m hoping on hearing some Ben Nicky remixes in his sets or mash-ups. Nicky is well-known to the trance community as being a mashup master. I predict his set will keep dreamers is dancing from start to finish.
