Alix Perez’s 1985 Music Strikes Again With ‘Atlas / 3’

1985 Music is back with their latest 12-track compilation, Atlas / 3, to remind bass music fans that they never miss.

When it comes to some of the cleanest and most forward-thinking sounds in bass music, fans will agree that 1985 Music remains a shining example. The Alix Perez-led imprint continues to put out sounds of the utmost quality and attention to detail, and it never goes unnoticed. Their American fanbase is steadily growing, and appearances from Alix and others from the 1985 Music roster are popping up more than ever at recent Stateside shows.

While most music labels maintain the goal of honing in on an overall signature sound, 1985 Music has set the bar extremely high in this regard. A fan can always tell when a track is from the imprint, no matter the artist or tempo. Just how they’ve done this so well remains a mystery, but it’s the reason fans get excited for their multi-artist compilations. Multi-artist projects often get overlooked when they are too big, full of artists you’ve never heard of, or just simply contain more bad or mediocre tracks than great ones.

That’s where 1985 Music comes in with compilations that are always fresh and true to their sound. The third edition of their Atlas series has arrived, and with plenty of fan-favorite 1985 Music tastemakers like Monty, Visages, Drone, Headland, Trail, and EPROM. Perfect for a press-play with zero skips, the tempos gradually increase as Atlas / 3 evolves from eerie, trudging dubstep to a dreamland of that classic, soulful DnB sound that the label has perfected so well.

Tracks like “Shower Man Time” from Sir Hiss and “Superstealth” from Cesco offer old-school rave-infused nostalgia of breaks and beats that won’t allow you to sit still. The dancing won’t stop as the tempo eventually kicks into high gear with Alix Perez and GLXY‘s single “Green Lane” ahead of its full release. This tune, with its dreamlike sounds and soft, floating vocals, is an unreleased gem Alix has teased for quite some time now.

The 1985 Music fan-favorite pairing of Monty and Visages came together once again on Atlas / 3 with another stunning soulful track to follow Alix’s collaboration. The upbeat DnB remains, but things eventually turn grimier with Visages’ standalone track “Margit” and Rockwell and Scepticz‘s “LENG.”

EPROM eventually puts a swift halt to all of the fast tempos that make up the project’s latter half, taking the honor of closing duties with his offering “Trust.” A truly unreal dubstep track that couldn’t be a more fitting closer, this tune’s deep, distorted sonics make it one that bass fans would call disgusting — in the absolute best way.

1985 Music’s Atlas / 3 is out everywhere now, so run to Spotify or your preferred platform to give some of the most advanced sounds in bass music a listen for yourself.
