Booka Shade Toasts to Their Origins With ’20 Years Reworked’

Famed duo Booka Shade have been slowly unveiling pieces of their 20 Years Reworked album. Today, the puzzle is complete!

Two decades ago, Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger decided that two heads were better than one and formed Booka Shade. Fast forward to the present, and their discography is colored with monumental bodies of work such as Memento and Movements, leading the charge for seven studio albums. Along the way, the German duo have headlined the world’s biggest festivals and even landed in Pete Tong’s Hall Of Fame. Respected artists such as Booka Shade deserve to be consistently celebrated, so we raise a glass to their success while we place our ears upon 20 Years Reworked!

The duo have teased fans with this eight-track package all summer long. Offerings like “Honeyslave,” “In White Rooms,” “Darko,” “Blaze” featuring Jan Blomqvist, and “Body Language” with M.A.N.D.Y. saw their remix treatments drop ahead of the full release. The artists tasked with the challenge on the aforementioned works include Joachim Pastor, 8Kays, Nils Hoffmann, JOPLYN, and BAUGRUPPE 90, in respective order. All stylized their selections with distinct character, not only to bring these beloved beats into the future but to remind the world that they are individual forces to be reckoned with.

The two remaining remixes had yet to make their rounds, but that ends today. First up is “Blackout: White Noise” featuring Chelonis R. Jones. London’s own Casper Cole took this one on, pulling the soundwaves deeper into the underground with melodics flowing like water. Next is “I Go I Go” with Kaktus Einarsson, and Japanese Anjunadeep staple Qrion scoops this one up. This marks her Blaufield Music debut, and she smooths out the original mechanics while adding a hefty weight to the overall emotion of the track.

Within the album’s boundaries, there’s a gem that deserves a special shoutout, even though it has been making its rounds since spring. It’s an original between Booka Shade and fellow Germans Satin Jackets called “Fusion Royale,” and it kicks off with a whisper, allowing the energy to swell as the track progresses softly. There’s an unending amount of beauty that can be extracted from the lucid intricacy of this track. It’s the type of tune that makes you want to fall into the beat and just vibe. Now that the package is complete, we hope fate smiles upon us and grants us another 20 years of Booka Shade magic!
