Fatum Stamps Name Amongst Anjunabeats’ Finest on Latest Compilation

in Album Review, New Releases

The California-based duo cracks open Anjuna’s plentiful vault of talent for the latest Anjunabeats Worldwide 10 compilation.

Fourteen years, ten artist-curated compilations. As one of the leading labels in progressive trance, UK-based, Above & Beyond-spearheaded label Anjunabeats is known for its compilations, one of its most iconic being the Worldwide series. Differing from the Volume compilations that are exclusively mixed by the label heads themselves, the Worldwide compilation is championed by a different artist or set of artists to showcase their own personal tastes. This series has been mixed by label titans like Ilan Bluestone, Mat Zo, Arty, Super8 & Tab, and most recently, Genix. Each one is a glimpse into the mind and soundscapes of some of trance and progressive’s finest. For the tenth installment, Bruce Karlsson and Dan Davis, aka Fatum, bring explosive tech-twinged progressive trance into the spotlight.

The two producers are veterans of the progressive scene, with Karlsson being one-half of Norin & Rad (with Nick Sember) and Davis one-half of Judah. Coming together to be a part of one of progressive trance’s most prolific duos, Fatum have graced the label with hits such as “Chocolate” and “Symphotek,” as well as remixes of Gabriel & Dresden, Nox Vahn, and Above & Beyond. With over a third of the 21 tracks on Worldwide 10 being their own productions, the pair are eager to show what they can bring to one of the label’s most famous compilation series.

Think Fatum’s Worldwide contribution is the best so far? What’s yours? Listen to the compilation below and give us your thoughts in the comments!

Starting out broody and melodic, Fatum open with a cut from the impressive second Tinlicker album, “You Take My Hand.” Contributions from Genix and Alpha 9 see reworks from progressive outfit Anden and label regular Grum, while Anjunabeats Rising talents Naz and Luccio both show why they’re some of the best new blood coming through the scene right now. Above & Beyond and Mat Zo’s club banger “Always Do,” a crowd favorite from ABGT450, makes a bold appearance early on as well.

Several Anjunabeats classics get updates in this comp as well. Signalrunners’ oldie “Meet Me In Montauk” gets a dark retouch from Davis in his Judah alias, while Anjunabeats A&R Adrian Alexander brings 2005 classic “Time Goes By” from Carrie Skipper into 2022, and Fatum themselves remix Tri-State classic “Alone Tonight” to close the album.

The first of Fatum’s individual contributions sees the duo reworking Whiteroom’s “The Whiteroom,” a certified trance classic. Alex Sonata and TheRio, two more Rising graduates, add to the electric energy of the second half of the mix with “Cala Luna,” while Ruben de Ronde and Elevven throw out a banging remix of another Above & Beyond classic, “Can’t Sleep.” Genix adds his first solo effort since his album 199X in “Your Destiny.” A string of new Fatum originals including with the club anthem “Backlash” continue to keep heads and feet grooving, before Myon’s Hard Club mix of the phantasmal “Moon,” and a new Sunny Lax track finish up the compilation with as much intensity as one expects from Fatum.

With two decades of combined experience, Fatum takes their place as the latest torch-bearers in the Anjunabeats Worldwide series, and mix us through a marathon of new progressive reworks of Anjunabeats classics, and brilliant production from the pair throughout. With their collected works previously re-released as The Story So Far, Worldwide 10 shapes up to be another wonderful chapter in their book, as well as Anjuna’s.
