The latest EP to come from rising star i_o is the two-track ROOTKIT, available now via mau5trap!
Jumping back to mau5trap for the release after dropping “LAZERS” on InHarmony, i_o‘s return to the label dominated by house and techno is a fantastic one. Featuring two stunning tracks, “PassiveX” and “Audio Dust”, the ROOTKIT EP is a must-listen for anyone looking for deeper understanding of i_o as an artist.
If you haven’t made yourself familiar with i_o yet, this is a great way to start as the ROOTKIT EP shows off both sides of the artist. With past releases that have brought forth banging techno right dropping along with euphoric melodies that have you floating through sound, i_o has continued to impress on these two new tunes.
Kicking things off is “Audio Dust” which is more reminiscent of his collaboration with Tommy Trash, “Oxygen”. The track gives listeners an uplifting vibe that makes it a perfect for those playlists to really put your head in the right space at the start of the day. In fact, this may be one of my favorite releases from i_o to date, and I can’t wait to see more of this side of him in the future.
Next up is “PassiveX”, which has a heavier tone meant for those late nights in dark spaces where it’s just the DJ, a small crowd, and limited production. The pounding drums are met with electro elements that work together to blast you out of the atmosphere and into orbit as you listen to the tune. It’s a track that could easily fit into any massive techno set that gets dancefloors moving.

Since the beginning of the year, i_o has been making some major moves with sets at events like Beyond Wonderland SoCal and a string of massive releases. Most recently he played during the Eric Prydz pool party at Marquee Dayclub for EDC Week, providing an epic soundtrack to those in attendance.
