In honor of #TranceGiving, aka Dreamstate SoCal 2016, we want attendees to have the opportunity to get to know the talent who will be our “Trancegiving Tour Guides”. Each week, we will feature bio’s of four Dreamstate DJ’s as well as a set from one of their latest events or some recent releases so you can get to know them better. Next in our series is… Cosmic Gate!
Cosmic Gate:
Meeting by chance in a studio in Germany in the late nineties, Nic Chagali (Claus Terhoeven) and DJ Bossi (Stefan Bossems) began their journey to dominate the electronic music world. Driven forward by their initial releases of “The Drum” and “Mental Atmosphere”, the duo was set for stardom. Their true arrival to the scene, which really launched them beyond the stars, was the release of tracks “Fire Wire” and “Exploration of Space” in 2001. Both tracks have since been played millions of times around the world, and are considered to be great representations of what a trance track should be. A decade later, they would go on to join forces with Emma Hewitt to bring trance fans a solid ballad with “Be Your Sound”, yet another track that is adored by fans around the world. Their album ‘Wake Your Mind’ that was released in 2011 grew their popularity in the scene even more, pushing out a vibe of “border free” electronic music. This has proven to be highly successful for them, and the ‘Wake Your Mind’ brand has expanded to include a label and radio show to share the name.
Cosmic Gate isn’t just simply known for their own original productions, but also are touted as some of the best remix artists around too. Remixing other trance acts ranging from Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz, to Armin van Buuren and Tiesto, they even have touched up other notable acts like Deadmau5 and Oceanlab. My personal favorite though, is their 2009 remix of John O’Callaghan’s hit track “Find Yourself”. Recently, Cosmic Gate has seemingly stepped into other reaches of electronic music, but each and every time I see them live it is always an amazing experience. They not only give props to their old classic tracks, but also interlace newer ones and updated sounds into their mixes. This duo is considered to be one of the all time greats in the genre of trance, and I hope that you catch them at Dreamstate SoCal this November!
