The Noodle Effect adds an album of new flavors to Spag Heddy’s already well-seasoned discography of bass-fueled tunes.
Following amazing sets alongside Excision and NGHTMRE, Spag Heddy is hard-launching his first album and accompanying international tour. The Noodle Effect reflects that the Dutch-born, Spain-based artist is clearly comfortable with musical ideas that might appear fringe to some. The curative compilation travels from Spag Heddy’s known sounds into more experimental realms, some of which he’s been wandering through for years- just waiting for the right time to provide fans with these specific, tasty treats.
Stating that he wanted to “showcase more of [himself] than just the headbanger dubstep that [he] is known for nowadays,” Spag Heddy’s direction on The Noodle Effect is focused on tracks that are more creative rather than dancefloor-aimed. Single releases, including “Sorry,” “Never Thought,” featuring Micah Martin, and “Hammer Time” with Kompany, only made fans grow hungrier for the full album, and now it’s available for everyone to feast their ears on.
Focused on personal growth as an artist, “Noodle Effect (Prologue)” offers a cinematic opening that transitions well into chord progression plays with pumped-up bass on “Bangski.” Completely opposing the previous track, Luxtides lends vocals to the gentler “Vertigo” to display a different side of Spag Heddy’s production skills.
“Feel Good” provides some bounce and a stunning melodic breakdown to add a splash of color before “Hammer Time,” with Kompany slashes into the grimiest bass and a deliciously heavy drop. Powerful single “Never Thought” with Micah Martin pairs well alongside the uncommon lyrical take on “Shooting Stars” featuring Crooked Bangs. Not to be missed, “Imagination” is a serotonin-boosting track that positively stamps Spag Heddy’s name into new subgenres and fanbases.
An entertaining listen from start to finish, The Noodle Effect successfully demonstrates the culmination of Spag Heddy’s efforts, including the restraint not to release until it reached the truly ideal state that fans received. The album offers an intentionally spiraling continuum that creates an experience in which sounds are individualistic and sometimes drastic but still cohabitate with success: a wild, fun ride.
