The year was 2011 and trance was still alive and kicking it among the other genres. Sure, different genres inside the house spectrum were rising and falling in popularity, but trance was still king with releases from massive artists like Above & Beyond, W&W and more. “Brute“, which is a collaboration between two world-renowned DJs, is pure bliss to my ears. Armin van Buuren & Ferry Corsten, who are legends in the trance community in their own regards, brought a sound with them that helped usher in a new era of trance. Released during the epic takeover of the electronic music scene by the producers spinning swedish house, I’m not sure that this track receives the recognition it really deserves from the community. As people (in America at least) were dancing their nights away to the sounds of Swedish House Mafia, Avicii and Alesso, I was definitely enjoying the sounds coming from the trance community just as much. “Brute” is a track that I love because it doesn’t just take the listener on a ride, but also incorporates a nice rolling bass element that drives the track forward.

It’s been 5 years since this epic trance track was released, and I’m hoping that more collaborations between Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten emerge in the future. Trance is on the upswing as life has been breathed in the genre the hard work of both local and international companies. Here in California on the smaller scale, groups like K-Lin Events have brought some seriously amazing artists ranging from Solarstone to Sneijder to John O’Callaghan to cities that never seemed to get much love in the trance world. Of course on a much larger scale Insomniac Events has helped usher in this new era of trance with their Dreamstate brand that has skyrocketed in popularity over the past 8 months. Definitely stay on the look out, as its time for the original mainstays of the electronic music community to rise up once again and bring us some amazing beats.
