Dynamic duo Arnold & Lane make their way over to Dumb Fat Records and transport us to the African savanna with Safari Girl!
With spring right around the corner, there’s little doubt that all you’ll want to do is get outside in the beautiful weather and dance! Luckily for house music lovers, Los Angeles’ own Arnold & Lane have the perfect music selection for the occasion. Their two-track Safari Girl EP is out now which also marks their debut on Sage Armstrong’s Dumb Fat Records. This brilliant little package of energy will have you jumping on the hype train headed straight for a romp in the wilds of Africa!
When it comes to their history, something that stands out immediately about Arnold & Lane is their knack for keeping each track unique yet in the same lane, creating a bonded package that always makes sense. For example, Walk Wit Me pushes the tempo to the extreme with tracks that explore 160bpm+. Then there are the low octave bass expressions on Do The Work that allows for a seamless groove while the bubbly top-end choices on Find Me In The 303 tie all three tracks together with trippy flair. Kings Crown takes us even deeper down the rabbit hole with upside-down style and hellish conviction.
Safari Girl stays true to Arnold & Lane’s dedication to creating a tethered journey, using similar note organization and vocal structure to complete the task. To describe this in further detail, let’s start with the title track. There are lightly distorted blips of sound that hang out within the melody, keeping our feet shuffling through Zimbabwe. The multi-layered vocal controls the rest of our body as we visualize bounding and leaping with a herd of Springbok. You have to pay attention to these production elements because the boys give them a bit of a facelift on the B-side.
With “Sippin Bangs,” The top-end detail keeps a familiar rhythm but hallows out, while the vocal focuses more on bass and strips out the higher octave voice that was weaved into the A-side. Even with the changes noted, you can feel the family resemblance down to its bones. As a whole, we come face to face with an attitude that’s as strong as a lion and as big as an elephant, making it impossible to avoid griding down low as you bump the beats throughout the reserve. With the final note, we are transported back home, ready for our next Arnold & Lane encounter.
