#TBT || Perpetuous Dreamer – The Sound of Goodbye

A fleeting alias bears incredible fruit with “The Sound of Goodbye”

Fun fact: Did you know that Perpetuous Dreamer was one of Armin van Buuren’s earliest aliases? Back in 1999, Perpetuous Dreamer would begin as a solo project, bestowing the trance world with new music like “Future Fun-Land”, one of only three tracks that Armin would deliver under the Perpetuous Dreamer alias. The second production entitled, “The Sound of Goodbye” would be the most successful track that would come out of the short-lived project as it dominated the air streams, hitting number one the US dance chart in 2001.

The track contains uncredited yet noteworthy vocals from Elles de Graaf and was, in fact, a collaborative effort between Armin van Buuren and Fuel 2 Fire. What makes “The Sound of Goodbye” very interesting is that the track was not actually released under its original Perpetuous Dreamer mix. Instead, Armin van Buuren released it as a variety of remixes which included the “Armin van Buuren Tribal Feel Remix”, “Armin van Buuren Tribal Feel Dub Remix”, and the “Rising Star Remix”. The track was later re-released in 2007 under the name Armin van Buuren – “The Sound of Goodbye” with additional remixes.

With such a small repertoire under the old alias, it is unlikely that we will ever see the resurgence of Perpetuous Dreamer, even if we have entered an age in which aliases both new and old seem to be popping up with quite the momentum and in astonishing numbers. But regardless of what the future may bring, in my opinion, “The Sound of Goodbye” will forever stand the test of time as it is a beautiful testament to the next level classic trance artistry that Armin van Buuren has always had running through his veins. Telling a story of desperate sadness through the divine combination of rolling synths that develop into a powerful crescendo, lingering above passionate, echoing lyrics, “The Sound of Goodbye”  inspires chill bumps every time I hear it.

Perpetuous Dreamer – “The Sound of Goodbye” Lyrics:

Every face I see is cold as ice
Everything I touch is pale
Ever since I lost imagination
Like a stream that flows into the sea
I am lost for all eternity
Ever since you took your love away from me

Sometimes the sound of goodbye
Is louder than any drumbeat
