In honor of #TranceGiving, aka Dreamstate SoCal 2016, we want attendees to have the opportunity to get to know the talent who will be our “Trancegiving Tour Guides”. Each week, we will feature bio’s of four Dreamstate DJ’s as well as a set from one of their latest events or some recent releases so you can get to know them better. Next in our series is… Magnus!
Magnus:
Michael Lee, known in the electronic music world as Magnus, genuinely has the gift of traversing between both the trance and psytrance world. He has been called a “crossover artist” and a “bridge” between the two worlds as he’s able to invoke the deep, dark pulsating psytrance beats while simultaneously maintaining melodic and uplifting sounds. This can be a difficult feat and his ability to maintain both sounds speaks to his skill as a DJ and producer.
Originally from Maryland but based in Seattle, Washington for at least 16 years, Magnus is one of the few US-based artists on the Dreamstate roster. His career began in 2002 when he started performing around the Seattle area under the name “Magnus” but 2009 was his career-changing year. That year he won the Sean Tyas Melbourne remix competition. This was likely the catalyst to his career explosion as since that time he has worked with top artists and released music through top labels. He has since released his “Signal Strength” via JOOF, played at Burning Man alongside Astrix and Juno Reactor and then made his UK debut in 2015, among other things. In addition, he has released numerous tracks through Perfecto, Who’s Afraid of 138?!, Iboga, Pharmacy, JOOF, and Perfecto Fluoro; his tracks have been played on A State Of Trance, Future Sound of Egypt, Rush Hour, Global Trance Grooves, and more.

Most recently Magnus collaborated with Simon Patterson to produce, “Evoke,” one of my favorite tracks of the year. I first heard the track on Aly & Fila’s BBC1 Essential Mix and instantly was in awe of its ability to evoke multiple different emotions. Obviously,it is a very fitting title for a track that is both deeply melodic and uplifting.

Since then I have familiarized myself with many of his original tracks and remixes. Magnus is truly talented as he is able to produce emotional melodies that are hard-thumping; he takes you to the edge of your seat then lifts you through the air with his talent. I look forward to hearing more from Magnus and his uniquely amazing uplifting psytrance sounds.
