In honor of #TranceGiving, aka Dreamstate SoCal 2016, we want attendees to have the opportunity to get to know the talent who will be our “Trancegiving Tour Guides”. Each week, we will feature bio’s of four Dreamstate DJ’s as well as a set from one of their latest events or some recent releases so you can get to know them better. Next in our series is… Neelix!
Neelix:
Henrik Twardzik, better known as Neelix, traverses multiple genres in electronic music, namely progressive trance, progressive house and psytrance. The German native began DJing in 1998 before developing his own sound in 2000. In this year he also adopted the moniker, Neelix, which was taken from a well known Star Trek character. Though he released his first album in 2003, it was his 2005 album “No Way to Leave” that catapulted him into the spotlight; he has revolutionized the dance music world ever since. In the past 11 years, he has founded his own label, Glamour Studios, played on five continents and played at numerous festivals including Tomorrowland and Electric Daisy Carnival. His sound can best be described as minimalist progressive psytrance and often includes voice samples or spoken word. It is easy to be entranced by the heavy basslines and melodies of his tracks; however, upon closer inspection of song titles and his carefully selected lyrics, the depth of his tracks surface alive.

I was fortunate to see him play a one hour set at Avalon Hollywood last month and was able to hear why his name is often synonymous with clean basslines and hard kicks. He’s minimalist through and through though the psy and progressive psytrance sounds are audible and mixed with futuristic elemental effects. He builds up the audience and right at the apex unleashes a crisp clean sound with each track effortless flowing into each other. I thoroughly enjoyed his high energy club set and look forward to hearing what he has in store for us at Dreamstate.
