Space Yacht dives into the harder styles with Speed Freak Vol. 1 featuring J. Slai, Clawz, DRAKK, TRIPTYKH, and more!

Throughout the years, Space Yacht has cemented itself as a key industry player by showcasing the next generation of dance music talent. It doesn’t matter whether it comes from the depths of the underground, the biggest festival main stages in the world, or your neighbor’s bedroom. Their passion for the scene runs deep in their blood, and their relentless spirit has led to some of the greatest takeovers around the country and a successful record label in Space Yacht Records.

With all of its achievements, Space Yacht has proven to be a prestigious brand in nearly every corner of dance music except one: hard dance. Although they’ve hosted the biggest names in the scene like Darren Styles, Gammer, and Lil Texas‘ hard techno alias Diamond Dallas Tex, Space Yacht has never fully dove into the world of speedy, high-octane beats.

Today, everything changes for Space Yacht Records. The label proudly presents the debut volume of a brand-new compilation called Speed Freak.

Speed Freak Vol. 1 comes on the heels of their first-ever Speed Freak events hosted in Los Angeles, and it’s designed to shine a light on the harder styles of dance music. Similar to the first two events, the first edition is dedicated to genres like hard techno, hard dance, or hardgroove.

Discover the sounds of the underground and dive into the first volume of Speed Freak by streaming on your preferred platform, and continue on for more tunes!

Stream Speed Freak Vol. 1 on Spotify:

Hard techno dominates the debut compilation with records from underground leaders like DRAKK, Clawz, ANOLUXX, and CRUNCHi. Makla and Woof Logik deliver a standout hard techno banger with “WHOR3” as punchy kicks and drifting screeches fill the speakers. TRIPTYKH delivers maximum distortion on “Texas Bastard,” where his sole purpose was to deliver a schranz-inspired industrial track that fits perfectly at a 3am warehouse set, a headlining performance at Unreal Germany, or anywhere between.

KAKU and Damian Avila teamed up for a unique take on hard techno that mixes in a dose of drum and bass at the end. The fun continues with speed house and hardgroove records with “Lil Fun” by Urenium and “Total Body Fuel” by Morelia. AMAGII keeps the vibes high with “POISON TREE,” a track that staggers between hard dance, psy trance, and techno with angelic vocals, reverse bass, and bouncy kicks.

Speed Freak Vol. 1 rounds out with two fiery records from American Hard Dance leaders J. Slai and Water Spirit. The latter showcases their chaotic yet calculated style on “FROST KICK,” manifesting through various kicks from gated to raw to obnoxiously distorted. Water Spirit even treats listeners to their melodic side, which is rarely explored but extremely special anytime they let it show.

Finally, J. Slai reunites with Hauz Raider on “Punch The Sky” for a hard dance record that encapsulates his signature style, delivering what listeners want before switching to what they need. While his musical inspirations are prevalent throughout the track, “Punch The Sky” is still uniquely his with a production style that can’t be replicated by anybody else. Like his live performances, J. Slai once again provided a standout record that treads the fine line between rebellion and excellence.

The first edition of Speed Freak transcends traditional hard dance, opting to touch every corner of the harder styles with a focus on hard techno. Despite previous expectations, Speed Freak Vol.1 does exactly what it’s supposed to — highlight fast music regardless of the genre.

Fans who want an accessible point of entry to the harder styles get to feast on the latest sounds dominating the club and festival circuit while longtime listeners can find something more to love. As the first volume in the series with plenty of events in the future, it’s great to know that hard music has gained one more home in America under Space Yacht’s leadership.
