Khiva Transcendes Artistry on 'Heavenly Bodies' EP

Khiva has become an artist who brings the house down every time she releases new tracks. “Prophetic Silence” – an ode to her previous track, “Prophetic Violence” – introduces the listener to Khiva’s haunting vocals that align atop a mystical, minimalistic backtrack with an impressive rhythmic entity to act as a smooth yet enchanting start. “Ephermeral” hits a heavier tone that Khiva is well-versed in, jumping straight into the depth caves of Hyrule with dark, gritty synths on a catchy bassline, paired with some haunting vocal samples of a spell-casting tone.

Another one of the outstanding tracks from the EP is “Rapture,” with its cinematic choral effect that takes a hard right and drops the listener into a soundscape of dub, with panning samples and a classic bass tune. There are so many different auditory stimulations in this song that it can take a few listens to focus on one element, but the overall story of the track is brought to life when put together.

The final track, “Satellite (Bones & Ice),” is a classic take on Khiva’s poetic talent in vocal rhythm and range, switching from a catchy rap hook to a ballad-like chorus. The journey this song takes embodies the symbol of the whole EP, with many different production techniques such as rhythmic layering, sample isolation, and vocal manipulation, as well as a jazzy undertone that makes this track a listening experience in itself any audiophile can get lost in.
