Rebūke Injects Peak Hour Venom with 'Wasp'

Rebūke continues to enthrall techno fans with the four-track Wasp EP and delivers a sting that will put anyone’s feet under his control.

It seems as if it was just yesterday that Rebūke made his step into stardom with the release of his breakout hit “Along Came Polly.” Since then, he’s made sure to keep our undivided attention with a signature sound that resonates through offerings like Rattle and “Dial Tone,” while he’s also sent shockwaves through the system on “Ultimate Distortion” with Alan Fitzpatrick. Needless to say, Rebūke’s developing some real staying power and with the emergence of Wasp, his star just got a whole lot brighter!

Wasp is a four-track package that’s out now on Drumcode and clearly not meant for the individual seeking rainbows and butterflies. No, this one attacks swift and with serious force, attacking your body with music designed for the peak hour. Take the title track, for instance. It begins with an in-your-face bassline pulse that gradually makes way for Rebūke’s coined style to take control. The way he brings it in signifies the arrival of the “Wasp” because with the tone now set, it’s time to dig into the center of a diabolical techno hive.

On “Evolution,” you can hear the swarm as it circles your head, ready to strike the moment you try and flee. This track is wildly disjointed and frantic, a true nod to the unpredictability of the wasp. This adds to the thrilling anticipation for what will ultimately feel like electricity traveling through your veins as your organs pulse in tandem with the driving tempo. The lighting techs will have a heyday with this track, allowing for an intense visual experience on club and festival dancefloors.

Next up, “Clarity” keeps the swarm swirling at bay, yet still close enough to keep listeners holding their breath in terror. This track sweeps on in with a heavy rise before dumping listeners into an abysmal cavern that leads straight to the gates of hell. There, they’ll find that the swarm has followed us down and as the familiar percussive elements ping and pound overhead, fall victim to the wrath of the wasp. Suddenly, the world around us goes completely black.

With the eclectic sounds of “Redemption” sweeping through our unconscious state, the feeling of life begins to return to the body. While you may have almost succumbed to the venom, it’s the music that saves the day. The uplifting kick inspires everyone to get back up on their feet, though still woozy from the mind-altering experience. As the swarm flies off to choose their next victim, Rebūke carries everyone home with a track that evens out the mood while keeping one toe dipped in darkness.
