Hi MAD Pritch, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today. You killed your set at ReVibe Wellness Retreat! Looking back on the set, what was your favorite moment?
Wow, what a question. Firstly, thank you so much! It’s hard to pinpoint my favorite moment during my set at ReVibe. Honestly, it was quite a *beautifully* emotional hour for me on stage, being my first live performance in nearly eight months. I remember feeling an especially lovely, synchronistic moment when I was playing my song “Contemporary Solutions”. It was towards the end of my set and I was feeling many different emotions. I was imagining myself sitting in my studio producing this song, and then the reality of playing it live for the first time was an otherworldly moment. Honestly, the entire hour was otherworldly for me!
Considering the world is in a far different place now than it was pre-COVID, what were some of the biggest differences between this festival and other shows you’ve played in the past?
Though there were many differences between this festival performance and other shows I’ve played in the past, I want to start by saying I absolutely loved the atmosphere and experience of ReVibe. Quite honestly, my expectations were blown out of the water. The main difference I noticed was the audience being further away (on their hotel room balconies) than shows pre-COVID, where the crowd was stationed directly in front of the stage.
Speaking of the past, let’s dig into your history a little bit as an artist. Who were some of your earliest influences in music, and what ultimately led you to become a DJ and producer?
Some of my earliest influences and inspirations in music are Missy Elliott, Pretty Ricky, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Nelly, Trey Songz, Drake, Omarion, Bow Wow, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Fantasia, Ashanti, Ying Yang Twins, PLIES, Nora Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, Wiz, TWISTA, Bobby Valentino, 50 Cent, Mac Miller… just to name a few!
Ultimately, what led me to become a DJ and producer were the happenings of some of the most beautiful synchronicities in my life. Such as the first time I played around on my friend’s Pioneer board, and when I started teaching myself how to produce! Something felt right… they both held a lot of meaning, and I never looked back!
You’re a Bloomington native like myself! What has it been like to go from playing local college town bars to playing festivals like ReVibe?
I just recently graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, and I am truly so grateful for my experiences with music and live performances during my time there. Bloomington has a really great music scene. They truly love electronic music and the people are open-minded with different genres and welcoming to new artists and performers. Though playing at different bars and venues was a great experience in Bloomington, I would say playing a festival (such as ReVibe) holds a very different feeling, atmosphere, and experience.
I have absolutely loved my musical journey so far. It has been beautiful to experience the transformation of playing at small local bars with hardly anyone in the audience, to playing shows and festivals with larger crowds! I am so grateful for every opportunity I get to perform, no matter the size or place, but playing on a loud system with an awesome stage set-up is truly unparalleled.
One of our favorite tracks of yours is “Hook” which saw you collaborate with Koko Villa, Ruku, and Wreckno, who also played ReVibe. Can you share what the production process was like for that tune?
This is also one of my favorite tracks! WRECKNO reached out to me about a song that he and his brother, Koko Villa, had been working on and said they wanted Ruku and I to both be featured. He sent me the song and I immediately fell in love with the production. He told me what part he wanted me to write to and I then wrote lyrics, recorded my vocals, mixed my vocals, and sent the audio file back, and voila! A few months later, the song was finished and is now released into the cyber world.
Your new song, “The Work,” has a different feel to it than some of your more bass-heavy tunes. What’s the story behind this track? Was there a certain inspiration you looked to there?
”The Work” is a unique and personal song to me, but honestly I think that about all of my work. Each song of mine is a compilation of different emotions. “The Work,” in particular, was a reminder to myself that in order to see positive changes in life one must put in the necessary work. Whether it’s learning a new skill, being more open-minded, growing within your career or relationships, or even getting in better shape, one must put in the work to see and feel the benefits unfold. This song is a reminder to show up for yourself and work hard at the changes you’d like to see in your life.
If you could collaborate with any artist in the world to produce some new music, who would it be with and why?
I think right now if I could collaborate with any artist, it would be CharlestheFirst. I really admire his artistry and his music truly hits me on an incredibly emotional/personal level. I love his production so much but I also really admire and connect with his lyrics and vocals. I would love to work with him one day!
Pandemic aside, what has been the biggest struggle you’ve faced as an artist so far in your career?
I think the biggest struggle I’ve faced as an artist so far in my career is wanting to fast forward and grow into my fullest potential as an artist, seemingly overnight. I think it’s so important to slow down and be grateful for where you are and enjoy the ever-evolving and developmental stages you are always going through as an artist. I am someone who always wants to learn more, do more and become more, and that in and of itself is not the best way to grow, in my opinion! Learning to slow down and be grateful in each moment is one of the most important lessons and reminders in my life.
Finally, what do you have in “the works” for your fans as we look ahead to 2021? Is there any new music coming that we should keep our ears tuned in for?
I am always working on music and creating art. Every single day! So really, there will always be new music from me. I create organically and from the soul, it keeps me feeling alive and happy. I have a ton of projects I’m currently working on. Definitely expect lots of music from me in 2021, and also at the end of 2020. I am almost done with a project that I will be releasing before the new year. Cheers!
