Daisy Chain launches a new home for experimental dance music, Daisy Chain Recordings, and its first release arrives from Player Dave and sumthin sumthin.

San Diego-based brand Daisy Chain has sunk its teeth into the scene since 2022 with standout underground events and those that have resided above the surface. While these tastemakers have brought everyone from TRUTH and Justin Martin to the stage while collaborating with other impressive promoters like DEF, their hunger for creating more remained. Enter Daisy Chain Recordings, the newfound label division of the blossoming brand that intends to put experimental dance music in the spotlight on an even larger scale.

Daisy Chain founder Player Dave, who has become known for his genre-less style of music, is at the forefront of this imprint. “I’ve never found a home for my music, not under a bigger artist who could put me on, or at a label that I fit into perfectly,” he shared. “So I decided to make my own ecosystem—a place for tasteful beats in garage, house, drum and bass, and halftime, any electronic music that provokes introspective thoughts while pushing the envelope of anything I’ve ever heard before.”

Daisy Chain Recordings will be open to artists who want to push the boundaries of electronic music through unique, genre-blending (or breaking) soundscapes. Player Dave also has his sights set on showcasing artists from outside the US, with the intention of bringing awareness to the dynamic styles coming from developing acts in the UK and more.

A label launch would be nothing without some fresh music, and who else but the label head could make an impressive splash to kick things off? Player Dave did exactly that by teaming up with longtime collaborator sumthin sumthin to release Daisy Chain Recordings’ debut single, “Hush.” This experimental tune acts as the standard that the label looks to seek out from others in the future, with its breakbeat-infused percussion, chopped vocals, and fantastic groove that you can’t help but move your body to.

At the intersection of emotive melodies and heavy-hitting drums, we find myself and long-term collaborator sumthin sumthin yet again. As the debut release for my record label Daisy Chain Recordings, it felt right to have the first tune be with a peer I’ve had as long as I’ve had my alias.

The track’s dancefloor-ready nature and the sounds that define Daisy Chain were put on full display last night in San Diego at the label’s launch party. Nestled in Holy Cobra Tattoo near the airport, friends and dedicated followers were treated to sets from Debra and Mirror Maze to kick the night off. The vibes swelled to an all-time high when Player Dave and sumthin sumthin took the stage for a special b2b set to cap everything off properly. Each performance was fantastic, with the artists blending everything from UK Garage to dubstep, and everything in between, while the intimate atmosphere evoked a familial feeling to the experience.

Player Dave and sumthin sumthin’s “Hush” is out now. Daisy Chain’s next show in San Diego features Hamdi, sumthin sumthin, Jordnmoody, Em Yujin, and more at Wicked West on August 17. Grab your tickets and follow the brand on social media for updates on their forthcoming releases and events.
