Jack Back, THEMBA – Give Me Something To Hold
While David Guetta and THEMBA are no strangers to Defected Records, the two have made history by officially coming together on “Give Me Something To Hold.” To make their union special, Guetta invoked Jack Back, his house moniker that he dusted off earlier this year by remixing “Hey Hey” by Dennis Ferrer.
Their debut collaboration has it all: a gorgeous melody, straightforward house vocals, and enlivening Afro house undertones. “Give Me Something To Hold” is the perfect addition to Defected’s 25th anniversary Together series, which will include a total of 25 tracks.
As the journey unfolds, the Together vinyl is available for pre-order. The box set includes 13 double-sided 12” singles, individually sleeved in one hard outer case.
Chris Avantgarde, Kevin de Vries – Killa
Call the kids inside because there’s a “Killa” on the loose! Just kidding, it’s just the latest track by Chris Avantgarde and Kevin de Vries. Unlike the aforementioned producers, these two have several tracks and remixes together including the beloved “Mind Control.”
With a bond tried, tested, and true, they land on Experts Only with a vengeance for not having them sooner. The victims of “Killa” are subjected to a lurking bassline hammer, menacing vocals, and sparks of high end electricity.
If you have the guts, you can watch Chris Avantgarde murder the dancefloor at Seismic Spring in Austin on May 5, or Kevin de Vries at EDC Las Vegas on May 18.
Gene Farris, Basura Boyz – In My Heart
It’s time we fill the room with rainbows and butterflies after the carnage the last track left behind. Luckily, Gene Farris and the Basura Boyz have the tune to do it! “In My Heart” arrives just one month after their previous collab, “Mentally In Miami,” but moves the Chicago trio from Repopulate Mars to Toolroom.
Their latest offering garners a flirtatious reaction, tempted by the bassline and attracted to lyrics that put a positive spin on the past. Want to know how “In My Heart” has been doing on the dancefloor? At a recent show, Gene Farris submerged himself in the crowd while the track was spinning, and it’s safe to say it passed the test with flying colors!
MISS DRE – LIFESTYLE
Let’s keep the house vibes flowing with a fresh one from MISS DRE, marking her Sweat It Out debut. To be fair, she has two releases on sister label Club Sweat, so this only further tightens her relationship with the brand.
“LIFESTYLE” is an ode to club life. The track begins with a vocal that expresses that sentiment, and then MISS DRE proceeds to fill the room with the energy required to keep the feet flying and the hands in the air.
Speaking of the lifestyle, the Bay Area producer is preparing to return to the Stereo Bloom stage at EDC Las Vegas, the spot to catch fellow rising artists like ZOF and Azzecca. I have a sneaking feeling that this track will be a contender for most rinsed of the weekend.
Len Faki – Make Me Scream (Amotik Remix)
It’s almost time to turn off the speakers, but first, plant your ears on a remix that’s making a lot of noise! In all seriousness, Amotik’s remix of “Make Me Scream” by Len Faki is a gentle yet peppy burn, morphing the original’s retro character into something suited for a dark room and a lone strobe.
The remix was plucked from the second edition of Len Faki’s Fusion Remixes on his Figure imprint, and the boss has been singing his praises. We’re witnessing the start of a great relationship between an up-and-coming techno star and one of the most respected members of the underground.
