sfam doesn’t have time for games, and their latest release, not playin’, has six fresh tunes to prove it—out now on HypnoVizion!

New Orleans-based duo sfam is known for their range and love of all bass styles with unique tracks that are dripping with passion. Last year, the duo caught the attention of Rezz and her crew at HypnoVizion, leading to the release of their debut EP on the imprint, neutral ground, which received an incredible response. Now, in 2024, sfam is back for their latest body of work, not playin’.

“For this EP, we wanted to make tunes at different tempos and we did exactly that,” sfam said about the not playin’. “The tempos range from 87 to 100 to 110 to 140. We love putting our spin on different styles and we think we showcased that well with this release.”

The title track shows right out of the gate that sfam is “not playin’” one bit. They pummel listeners with each drum pattern present, leaving you guessing what could be around the corner. Make sure you “listen here” and listen well because the second tune on the EP is unlike anything you’ve heard before as warbled bass lines take over and guide listeners into an uncertain yet irresistible soundscape.

HerShe teams up with sfam for “wassup,” which provides the perfect elements to set this track on fire. Otherworldly clicks and ticks permeate the space as the track title rings over the glitchy atmosphere. “get busy” is back with some forceful, bouncy, low-end beats that could incite a riot. Next, Super Future gave his two cents on “gettin paid” for the second collab on the EP, where trap meets deep bass in perfect harmony. sfam then ends the EP on an energetic note with “run it back,” providing the same elevated energy we started with, showing off the duo’s ability to compile a mean-hitting beat once more.
