Sonnee heads to Attack Decay Sweet Release to drop his sophomore EP and most authentic body of work yet, Chalk.
Known for turning warm colors into sound, Sonnee has captivated the hearts of both fans and tastemakers alike, proving to be a rising star in the progressive house space. His unique sound has a sweet, introspective nature, gaining favorable recognition from outlets like BBC Future Sounds ‘Next Wave’ and catching the attention of artists like Sultan + Shepard, who invited the UK-based producer to remake their infamous song “Elenore” on their Forever, Now Remixed album last fall.
Shortly after his This Never Happened debut, Sonnee released “Fever,” becoming the lead single to introduce his sophomore EP Chalk, which is finally out on Attack Decay Sweet Release. This release is a five-part body of work that explores the depth of raw emotion, tapping into the intensity of what it means to be human with each sweeping melody. Sonnee gushes over the project, professing that even though he started with a blank canvas, it turned out to be a spectacular hue that authentically reflects the inner workings of his soul.
Chalk opens with “Love Now, Again,” an uplifting ballad that Sonnee claims was the “most optimistic and heartfelt track” he’s ever written. The song ebbs and flows between high-energy melodies and sweet, soft female vocals that could bring a warm, welcoming energy into any space. “Fever,” which was released alongside the EP’s announcement, feels like a fever dream of vibrant color, with each note offering up a luscious soundscape of dance music and soul.
There was a specific track that spoke to my soul deeper than the rest, and that was “Feel This (How Long Will I),” featuring the soothing, heartfelt vocals of Benji Lewis. The track really pulled at my heartstrings with its textured piano chords and intricate synth melodies coupled with the feeling of yearning that the lyrics invoke. It’s a song that I can envision completely losing myself to on the dancefloor, and I’m sure you will, too.
