Rampage founder Murdock delivers a hearty dose of drum and bass with the release of his sophomore album, X-Ray.
Few artists in the drum and bass scene have made the impact that Murdock has over the span of his career. Not only has this DJ and producer delivered some of the genre’s most important tracks and played stunning sets, but he’s helped foster the future of the bass scene in Europe and beyond through his brand, Rampage. Whether you’ve caught Murdock spinning at a Rampage event or just heard one of his tunes, you know he’s got his finger on the pulse of the scene, but his latest album, X-Ray, changes things up.
X-Ray is out now on Rampage Recordings, and while it contains 13 fresh drum and bass tunes that will leave you rolling forward, there’s more than meets the eye. Each track represents a piece of what makes Murdock who he is today, with everything from soulful vocals and euphoric moments to energetic rides and more found inside.
“Cola” begins the journey with guitar strings and gorgeous vocals from Ruth Royall for a retro-twinged track that transforms into a subdued drum and bass gem. Other vocalists found on this album, like Ayah Marar on “Lost In You,” Emilie Rachel on “Living In The Moment,” Medyk on “Runaway,” and Sena Dagadu on “Reign,” all add their own touch to stir up added emotional power as the seconds of their respective tracks tick away. Omar Perry also found his way onto X-Ray for one of the album’s stunners, “Fire Burning,” that will ignite a flame in the depths of your soul.
Other fantastic tracks on X-Ray include some of the solo tunes that Murdock crafted in the studio. “Hardcore Vibes” is a groovy ride that you’ll want to spark up a light to while listening before throwing your finger guns in the air. “Juno Redrum” opens with a drum-fueled intro before shoving plenty of rave energy into your face, with similar elements found in “Call This Love” later on the album. And if you wanted some VIP action, then the takes on “Trouble” and “Free” are here to show why Murdock is one of the best in the scene.
Listen to X-Ray on Spotify or your preferred platform, and make sure to follow Murdock on social media for the latest from this beloved artist in the drum and bass scene.
