Surf Mesa details the inner mechanics of his journey in making his dreams come true on his debut EP.
We’ve all been there – those elusive moments in life when our dreams become tightropes stretched delicately in the balance. There is beauty in these uncertainties, and Surf Mesa knows it all too well. Since breaking out in the scene in 2019, he has mastered his “mellifluous” sound. Crafting music that captures the carefree joy he experienced as a teenager, his signature blend of breezy melodies, upbeat tempos, and laid-back euphoria adds a feel-good nature to the dance music scene.
In his latest EP, Come True, Surf Mesa delivers an anchor of light that invites listeners to embrace the ethos in the precarious moments of life. He brings a sweet reminder of growth and self-discovery. Along with previously released gems such as “State Of My Heart” and “Run,” the EP contains two new tracks, “Fighting For You” and “Angels Hold Me,” characterized by their expressive soundscapes and lively pop hook that amplifies the depth of an adventurous spirit.
The EP starts with a sweet blend of melodic vocals and driving beats in “City Of Love.” Surf Mesa teams up with Selah Sol to deliver a sun-soaked melodic daydream akin to a beachside anthem. As an ode to the delightful summer days, “First Time” dials up the golden glow with a promise of the quintessential warmth under the blissful sunshine. With Stevie Appleton, Surf Mesa injects an uplifting element into this sultry earworm packed with an endearing texture.
As a bonus, the two new tracks represent an invitation to the listeners to dance with the possibilities of hope. “Fighting For You” offers a tranquil vibe reminiscent of nostalgic retro vibes and contemporary electropop production. Recorded with Whethan and WILHELM, the track is packed with a sensation of carefree joy and ’80s vibes.
“Angels Hold Me” is yet another exquisite audio experience that alchemizes sadness with the magic of a dynamic rhythm. UK duo SUPER-Hi joins in on the fun as Surf Mesa drums up hope and comfort with swirling synths and chord progressions. Once again, he calls on those uncertain about their dreams to hold on to the notion that better things lie on the horizon.
Finally, the EP rounds off with the only solo track, “Manzanita,” a standout piece that deftly bridges the sonic gap between trance and tech-house. Surf Mesa leans into a minimal approach backed by hypnotic rhythms and dynamic rigor. This meditative musical offspring has a brooding, atmospheric undertone as the charming star weaves in an alluring moment that mirrors a breakthrough when you have finally achieved the dream you have always wanted.
Come True is more than just a rich exploration of sounds and emotions; the EP is a poignant homage to remaining steadfast in a better future that awaits. Tune into the magic and stream Come True on Spotify or your favorite streaming platform.
