Wongo Delivers Fourth Part of ‘Not For Radio’ Series

Wongo breathes life back into his Not For Radio EP series by releasing the fourth edition that unleashes a feral mix of raw energy!

Australian Box Of Cats co-owner Wongo is back at it again, serving up spectacular sounds to enjoy each warm summer night and beyond. Of course, we’re all still dancing to “Da Da Da,” a chic tech house tune that he even named his recent world tour after. Now, you can add three more tracks to your playlist in the form of Not For Radio, Pt. 4, a series that kicked off in 2020 to give Wongo an extra outlet to experiment during lockdown.

The EP kicks off with a unique raw trance offering under Beatport law, or as Wongo calls it, “a spicy techno/fidget hybrid.” Either way, the track is called “Flex,” and it flexes its auditory muscle with a mighty punch to the tempo. It’s equal parts weird and wonderful, placing listeners deep within a cyclone of mechanical synths and animated percussion. The synths evolve into something wildly reminiscent of the blips and bleeps you’d find in a retro video game, adding a colorful facelift to the raucous soundscape.

The second track is called “Lady Date,” and it sees Wongo sampling from one of his favorite artists, Julien Delfaud. He wanted to keep the atmosphere unrelentingly dark and seriously smashed it out of the park. From beginning to end, he keeps the electricity turned on so that listeners who jump on the grinding beat will ride uninhibited until they drop from the hellish impact. This type of tune doesn’t need extra bells and whistles to get its point across.

The final offering is called “Melted Disco,” and the sounds within do the name absolute justice. Wongo describes it as “letting your favorite disco vinyl sit in the Sahara desert for approximately four to five business days, brushing the sand off and slapping a drum loop on top.” Couldn’t have said it better myself, and when the first grinding beat drops, the dusty imperfection shines through immediately. But even with the intended fuzzy sound quality, the classic vocals and distinct percussion will keep you coming back for more!

If you’re ready to ride the tempo, then listen on Spotify, grab your copy of Not For Radio Pt.4 on Beatport, and let us know what you think of the beats on Twitter!
