Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden Impress on ‘The Answer’

Two of house music’s most prolific producers, Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden, deliver four house heaters on The Answer.

Throughout their careers, Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden have done more for house music than most producers achieve in a lifetime. Now, the time has come for these two pillars of the genre to deliver precisely what 2020 needs, a dancefloor destroying, collaborative EP dubbed The Answer. Featuring four all-new tracks, this EP offers a bubbling, booty-shaking good time that defines proper house music.

Staying true to their legacy, the two artists’ pounding bass lines, stabbing synth fills, and hypnotic vocal hooks throughout The Answer are just begging for a festival-sized sound system. Kicking off the EP is the lead single and title track, “The Answer,” which harkens back to dance music’s past—at the same time, completely reinventing the classic sound for house music’s current time in the spotlight. Sampling Blind Truth‘s 1991 vocal-house hit “Why Can’t We See,” which was originally created by storied producer/DJs Arthur Baker and Victor Simonelli, the message of unity is something the world truly needs right now.

If there is one thing that makes The Answer stand out, it is Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden’s ability to make house fans around the world “Feel So Good.” This driving, high-energy club banger utilizes sizzling synths, deep bouncing bass, and a complete surrender to the sounds of classic house music. Then, the vibes continue on as Van Helden’s NYC roots arrive front and center in “Work!,” a house banger that’s ready for the first warehouse rave post-pandemic. Chris Lake’s immediately recognizable synth work brings this scintillating track to life and takes it to another dimension.

All I’m really looking for is to get people on the dance floor, and by the time they finish they realize, ‘Oh, God, my feet really hurt.’ I want them to dance and let go and feel good.

Perfectly bringing The Answer to a close is the sexy, smooth bop that is “Dubai Dublin.” This relentless beast of a track polishes the sharp edges left behind from the EPs previous three tracks while maintaining an insatiable energy throughout. As if there was still any question about who’s at the top of the house music totem pole, Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden’s The Answer is the perfect bridge between house music’s past and present.

Logan Garrison

It was a decade ago that Logan Garrison, better known as DJ Lo_G, first took the stage to spin sets for crowds in the snowy towns of Lake Tahoe and Aspen. Originally spinning sounds in the realm of glitch and bass music, he began to develop a passion for all things house as he returned to his hometown and hasn’t looked back since. Over the years, DJ Lo_G has become a fixture in the Aspen nightlife scene as he has found a home at Belly Up and regularly warms up the stage for some of dance music’s biggest artists like The Chainsmokers, Chris Lake, Slow Magic, Nora En Pure, and most recently ZHU. Joining the EDM Identity team back in 2018, he’s dug even deeper into dance music and the festival scene. Whether he’s covering events like Mysteryland and shows in Aspen, interviewing artists like Hannah Wants, and reviewing fresh releases, his passion for the entire community shines throughout.
