Kasbo Takes Us to New Sonic Realms on 'The Making of a Paracosm'

Kasbo delivers vibrant musical imagery on his sophomore album that provides an introspective look into the artist’s psyche!

Paracosm (n): a detailed imaginary world; an alternate reality beyond our universe. The second full-length album from Kasbo, The Making of a Paracosm, introduces us to this concept of a world accessible only through daydreams. The Swedish producer heavily teased the album with the release of five singles, including “Play Pretend (ft. Ourchives)” and “Staying In Love,” that each painted their own unique pictures of what the world could expect with his latest record.

The album takes listeners on a sonic journey through Kasbo’s life, adorned with memories of the producer’s childhood in Sweden. Listening to The Making of a Paracosm feels akin to opening his memory box and flipping through scrapbooks full of pictures and stories of Scandinavian folklore. The album is both a sentimental nod to the artist’s heritage as well as a dynamic look into his own soul.

The Making of a Paracosm is a very important piece to me. It unfathomed so many different aspects of my life. I made this album during one of the best years of my life, but the following year under which I made it was one of the worst. I feel like this makes it capture such a wide array of emotions, from euphoria to sadness. From joy to anger. This is the most full and direct creative representation of me and I’m so happy to finally be able to put it out into the world.

The Making of a Paracosm is rich with effervescent instrumentals and potent lyrical narratives.

The album’s title track takes the first step into Kasbo’s world, blending harmonic strings with mesmerizing electronic tones that illustrate the essence of the record. The third track finds Kasbo inviting listeners to close their eyes and “Shut the World Out,” with vibrant melodies and the alluring vocals of Frida Sundemo to deliver a captivating track that serves as a momentary escape from reality. “Talk Slow” brings us back down to earth, merging an easygoing beat with passionate vocals from Noomi.

The second half of The Making of a Paracosm brings the record a layer deeper both in sound and feel. The producer teams up with Vancouver Sleep Clinic on “Lune,” a raw and heartfelt ode to sleepless nights and fleeting moments with a past lover. This track is one of the most potent on the album lyrically and instrumentally, invoking listeners to reflect on their own memories. The high-energy production on “Skogsrå” draws on the likes of Flume and perfectly complements the whimsical aura of “Hemma.”

The Making of a Paracosm is a visceral experience, each song a testimony to the artist’s past and present alike.
