Celebrate fresh dance music beats with Armada’s new radio show Armada Next that broadcasts every Sunday on SiriusXM!
Always up for new adventures, Armada Music embarks with a new radio show hosted by CEO Maykel Piron and Armada UK label manager Ben Malone called Armada Next. Broadcasting every Sunday via SiriusXM (currently on Diplo’s Revolution), Maykel and Ben highlight their favorite new tunes and undiscovered gems in the studio made famous by Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance radio show.
Armada Next is no clone of ASOT though. It focuses on the diverse flavors of Armada Music’s broad range of labels under Maykel’s sonic selection. The sound here is definitively more house and general dance music so if you desire something a bit slower than A State Of Trance, there is plenty to love here. Undoubtedly, the show will help solidify the path into the workweek.
The hour-long show features some radio show staple segments too! “Track of the Week” offers a single selection from the hosts that they really love (shout out to Loud Luxury for getting the slot on the first episode), and the ever-present “Armada Classic” reaches deep into the dance music history books pulling out a slice of the beauty of dance music’s roots. The Armada Classic week 1 selection went to Afro Medusa’s “Pasilda” – a no-doubt Ibiza classic!
For the unfamiliar, Maykel Piron is one of the founding members of Armada Music with Armin van Buuren and David Lewis. He represents the “ma” in Armada (Armin is the “Ar” and David is the “da”). The sixteen-year-old independent Dutch dance music label saw the rise and fall of much of the genre’s modern history and, to no one’s surprise, made much of it as well. A who’s who of dance music’s elite flocked to the label for its wide reach beyond the Dutch marketplace it calls home.
Joining him is KISS FM radio talent and Armada Label Manager in the UK – Ben Malone. Ben is solidifying his talents in tastemaking for dance music by co-hosting Armada Next as he already kicks off KISS FM’s Saturday Night Kiss. He brings a resume filled with radio experience including Represent Radio, Rinse FM, and Data Transmission Radio over the years.
Maykel’s passion for the new project remains grounded yet full of passion, and in his own words: “Making radio and mixing records is something that I always loved doing and always wanted to do again. When the guys from Sirius XM first told me that they’d love to see me do a radio show, I just knew that I had to pick up making radio again. I think Armada Next is a great way for me to share my vision, musical taste and love for dance music with the world, and I can’t wait to see how this new endeavor will unfold.”
Be sure to tune in every week for a new episode of Armada Next on SiriusXM on Sunday or Monday on Mixcloud, SoundCloud, YouTube, and Facebook.
