ICARUS

UK House duo Icarus dropped an accompanying music video to their hit tune “Sirens” and we can’t stop watching it!

Up-and-coming UK duo Icarus has released an accompanying music video for their single “Sirens” that is off the This Must Be The Place EP. The track itself is absolutely addictive, with a haunting lead-in that’ll have you hooked immediately. It also features a deliciously housey drop that on the surface may seem cheery and lighthearted but, if the lyrics give any indication otherwise, may actually be dripping in darker undertones.

The music video follows suit with the darker undertones throughout. Centered around a conflicted getaway driver, any real problems our protagonist may have (or antagonist, we’re not entirely sure) are masked in a kaleidoscope of color and city lights. Again, at first glance, the music video may just seem like another trippy compilation of bright lights and time lapses, but the underlying meaning indicates something a bit more sinister.

The track’s eerie atmosphere matches that of the video’s perfectly and the effects are so transfixing that we almost didn’t notice the part at the end where the driver’s partner appears to have been shot as she’s being helped into the car. Almost.

Sydney attributes her love for music from her mom, who insisted on playing The Foo Fighters and The White Stripes rather than Kiss FM whenever she drove carpool and agreed to allow Sydney to attend Coachella in the eighth grade as long as she could go with her. That first festival only greater affirmed Sydney’s passion for the scene, but it was not until 2013 when she attended Swedish House Mafia’s One Last Tour concert in Los Angeles that she discovered electronic music. She was hooked instantly and has since attended a total of 23 festivals, with countless concerts in between. Sydney’s favorite artists include RL Grime, Jauz, Jai Wolf, Louis The Child, Slander, Bearson and Big Gigantic but she is constantly on the look out for new music and artists to dance to. When she’s not scouring the internet for new tracks or grooving at a concert, Sydney studies Journalism and Biology full-time at the University of Oregon.
