The Landing || Volume 095
Elderbrook brings us a serious groove with Old Friend EP.
Since 2015, British musician, songwriter, and producer Elderbrook has been delighting fans worldwide with his signature grooves and tongue-in-cheek lyrical stylings. Just as well-known for his kinetic live performances as for his musical creations, Elderbrook has been touted by many in the scene as one to keep an eye on, and he proves that once again with the release of his Old Friend EP this week.
Old Friend consists of four stellar tracks, the lead single of which, “Capricorn,” was given a stellar remix by none other than Claude VonStroke. My favorite of the bunch, though, is the title track, “Old Friend,” which utilizes a retro synth and a stripped-down production to tell a story about falling back into your old ways with friends from your past. Much like any Elderbrook tune, the listening is just as much about the lyrics as it is about the production, so grab a pair of headphones and listen to all four tracks–you won’t be disappointed. -Erin

Skrillex x JOYRYDE drop fire collab “Agen Wida”!
For what has been a relatively quiet year on both a track release and touring front, dubstep legend and one of the most influential producers/DJs in dance music Skrillex and bass house DJ JOYRYDE have teamed up to release “Agen Wida” on OWSLA records.
“Agen Wida” is a great combination of Skrillex’s unique sound elements and JOYRYDE’s original take on bass music. From the attention-grabbing intro, modulating bassline that accentuates both DJs’ musical styles, choppy vocals, and futuristic sound design, this track is a fun banger, best served loud. -Bill

Sacha Robotti delivers a bangin’ remix of Sonny Fodera & Gene Farris’ “We Work It!”
Dirtybird family and house music fans around the world, prepare yourselves to listen to a track of epic proportions. Sacha Robotti, legendary sloth aficionado, has teamed up with Gene Farris and Sonny Fedora to remix their 2015 house track “We Work It” as part of the ongoing celebration for the twentieth anniversary of Farris Wheel Records.
What’s so special about this track? I’m glad you asked. Right from the start, the driving, grungy, acid house bassline takes hold and never lets go. The formulaic lyrics coupled with eccentric sounds from a variety of synthesizers fill out the mood to build into a true euphoria of proper house music. I can’t wait to hear this played out on a proper sound system and watch the crowd go berserk! -Tim

Gammer and Dougal team up for “Blow This” as the first release on Kayzo’s new label, Welcome Recs!
Hardcore fans rejoice, as this absolute banger is finally an official release! While many have heard it before in live sets, people are not showing any lack of excitement over “Blow This”, the newest track from hardcore legends Gammer and Dougal that is being proudly touted as the first release on Kayzo’s second label, Welcome Recs.
Focusing on frantic sounds rather than lyrics, this song is sure to get any crowd’s blood pumping. Personally, I love the brief interlude after drop number one that quickly segues into drop number two by proclaiming, “Get ready for another one”! -Bryan

Phantoms remix themselves with latest VIP mix of their smash single “Lay With Me” featuring Vanessa Hudgens.
Electronic duo Phantoms delivers some of their best work yet with their latest VIP mix of their smash single “Lay With Me”. The original radio-ready electro-pop single has garnered over two million plays on Spotify since the end of October. However, this latest remix truly allows the Phantoms boys to transition from emerging artists into mainstays in the scene.
This latest flip puts Vanessa Hudgens’ vocals front and center as they weave perfectly between Phantoms’ ethereal synth leads and a heavy, driving bassline, sure to get even the largest of dance floors moving. With the 2019 festival circuit quickly approaching, I think it is a safe bet that we will see the duo popping up on lineups from coast to coast; a guest appearance from Vanessa would make it that much sweeter. -Logan

No Mana and i_o bond their intense production prowess to deliver peak hour madness on “Bad Things”!
It may be called “Bad Things” but I can’t find one bad thing about this incredibly infectious production by No Mana and i_o, featuring the voice of Fay! Released this week on mau5trap, this tune drips with that deliciously familiar progressive/techno character that the label holds on lock. But it is the hint of psy that drops my jaw to the floor as I am a sucker for the blending of genres when done right.
It was as if destiny was written in the stars as two of the most forward-thinking artists in the scene would join forces once more. Just this past October they released their mind-melting remix of Knife Party’s “Sleaze” and from that moment we have all been chomping at the bit for more No Mana and i_o collaboration action. In true form, the guys have pulled out all the stops on this one, leaving me breathless as I break into a one-woman dance party in the middle of my living room! Trust me when I say that you are gonna want to put this one on repeat! -Maria

Astrosphere gives “What Lies Between the Stars” and straight into your ears!
Fresh off a US debut of their live act, Astrosphere, the combination of Robert Nickson and Driftmoon, release the gem that is “What Lies Between The Stars.” The second release on Solarstone’s Pure Trance Neon offers the beauty of the genre for which it represents: a moody but moving piano breakdown sublimated with airy choral vocals, euphoria in the chords that encapsulate the essence of trance music, and the rush of energy that only trance offers.
Collaborative artistic visions are never simple to execute, but true artistry rises to meet the call when sounding this effortless. If you love trance, if you want to feel the beauty and energy of the genre, and maybe, if you’ve asked yourself, “What lies between the stars?” this is the track you should listen to today. -MyStro

A-Trak pulls off an energetic remix of Ferreck Dawn & Robosonic’s “In Arms”!
How do you make the best better? That’s the question when approaching any remix of “In Arms”, Ferreck Dawn & Robosonic’s deliciously groovy house hit from earlier this year. Featuring dueling vocal samples and a wonderful piano-based melody that underline a powerful beat, “In Arms” is one of the top tracks of 2018. But with the quality of the original track already so high, you’d be hard-pressed to find a remix that matches that magic.
Still, one of the scene’s perennial hitmakers, A-Trak, has taken a swing at it, and he doesn’t disappoint. He’s taken a moody song with a slow pace and a delayed payoff and turned it into a certified banger. Chopping up the piano parts but keeping the vocals the same, A-Trak brings in a bassy drop and electro zips that energize the chorus and make it irresistibly danceable. Despite threats of repetition due to the relative simplicity of the beat, A-Trak keeps the second half interesting by introducing a wobbly synth. Overall, the remix doesn’t take the song in dramatic new directions, but it gives it a shot in the arm that feels ready to rock on any dance floor. -Erik

Jason Ross takes us “East of Eden” with his newest track.
It’s been a big year for Jason Ross and next year will be even bigger. Jason Ross recently announced his Rooms EP with the release of “East of Eden” alongside a special EP tour announcement. His new track features lots of synth goodness alongside a series of snares.
I love how track opens up quickly to build up the musical energy. If you listen closely, it’s almost like the synth sounds are ping-ponging off one another. The track winds down around ~1:15 and builds up again for an explosive finish. It’s definitely a powerful track and a great showcase of what is to come with the Rooms EP, especially since each track will represent a different space or “room” that Jason Ross experienced during his travel. I am looking forward to the next track to see what “room” it will take us to. -Lisa

Darren Styles and Dougal take us “Home”.
Darren and Dougal are no strangers to collaborating on massive happy hardcore tracks. Late last year, these main players in the scene brought us “Burnin Up” while collaborating with Gammer, and back in 2014 they released “Don’t Give Up.” Suffice to say, it was time for a new track by these two happy hardcore maestros.
In the latest release, Dougal and Darren Styles teamed up with vocalist Jacob Wellfair to release “Home” via Monstercat. The track has the usual feel-good melodies and euphoric yet hard sound the producers are so great at creating. Wellfair’s vocals stand out in the best way as they are strong but still saccharine sweet as many happy hardcore vocals tend to be. If you’re looking to add more recent happy hardcore records to your catalog, you should definitely check this one out! -Abisola
