#TBT || Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso – Calling (Lose My Mind)

This week, let’s take it back to 2012 with Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso’s “Calling (Lose My Mind)!

Ah, 2012… the year the first Hunger Games movie hit theaters, Carly Rae Jepsen went viral with her infuriatingly catchy single “Call Me Maybe,” and of course, when Nick Jonas rocked 12-year-old’s worlds everywhere when he took off his *gasp* purity ring. In the electronic music realm, this time period was also arguably the era of progressive house. Thanks to massive releases like Swedish House Mafia‘s “Save The World” and Porter Robinson‘s “Language,” EDM blew up and reached audiences it never really had before. For me, I associate one track in particular with this period – Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso‘s classic track “Calling (Lose My Mind)”.

The track was released as a single in 2012 and was one of the first the two worked on together. The original, lyric-less version was released the previous year and was simply named “Calling”, but I’d argue that the true magic of the song is lost without One Republic Ryan Tedder‘s vocals.

I can honestly say that I remember the exact moment I heard this song for the first time, partially because the date is printed on the concert ticket I managed to hold onto for all these years. It was Swedish House Mafia’s second-to-last stop on their One Last Tour in LA on March 9, 2013. Although I was about a year late to the game, as soon as Alesso played that track during his opening performance, I was sold – not only on the song but on the entire electronic scene itself.

The way everyone grabbed onto the person next to them to sing along and sway to the song was unlike anything I’d ever seen and something that I’ve rarely witnessed since. Regardless of wherever you were or who you were with when you first heard this track, I hope listening again will jog your memory and take you back to a simpler time – before it was considered “lame” to spend your whole night at a festival singing your baby raver heart out at the main stage.

So whether you’ve listened to this song more times than you can count (it’s definitely my top most played song on iTunes) or still haven’t heard it (seriously, wtf?!), make sure to listen below and make your Thursday significantly better, guaranteed.

Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso – “Calling (Lose My Mind)” Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Can we freeze karma and surrender our rights and wrongs
Can we just for a night let the stars decide where we belong
Maybe heaven right now is a devil or angel away
That won’t change together we vow that our colors will sparkle the faith

[Pre-Chorus]
And I will find you
I will find you
I will reach you
Or I, I, I will lose my mind
Lose my mind
Lose my mind
Lose my mind
Lose my mind, yeah!

[Chorus]
I will lose my mind, yeah
Lose my mind, yeah

[Verse 2]
Maybe heaven right now is a devil
Or angel away
That won’t change
Together we vow that our colors will sparkle the faith

[Pre-Chorus 2]
And I will find you
I will find you
I will reach you
Or I, I, I will lose my mind
Lose my mind

[Chorus]
I will lose my mind, yeahhh
Lose my mind, yeahhhh

Sydney attributes her love for music from her mom, who insisted on playing The Foo Fighters and The White Stripes rather than Kiss FM whenever she drove carpool and agreed to allow Sydney to attend Coachella in the eighth grade as long as she could go with her. That first festival only greater affirmed Sydney’s passion for the scene, but it was not until 2013 when she attended Swedish House Mafia’s One Last Tour concert in Los Angeles that she discovered electronic music. She was hooked instantly and has since attended a total of 23 festivals, with countless concerts in between. Sydney’s favorite artists include RL Grime, Jauz, Jai Wolf, Louis The Child, Slander, Bearson and Big Gigantic but she is constantly on the look out for new music and artists to dance to. When she’s not scouring the internet for new tracks or grooving at a concert, Sydney studies Journalism and Biology full-time at the University of Oregon.
