#TBT || Shiba San – Okay

Tim Goth
Shiba San Okay

“Okay”, after many years Shiba San’s epic track still has the ability to make crowds go wild!

The year is 2014, it is the end of February and everyone is just working for the weekend in the hopes that winter will soon be over.  Picture yourself in that very scenario and imagine what your life would be like if Dirtybird boss Claude VonStroke hadn’t dropped Shiba San‘s “Okay” into the first-of-its-kind Dirtybird BBQ Compilation album?  We’d all be much, much worse off, right?  I, for one, wouldn’t have found myself dancing like an absolute fool on so many different occasions; maybe that’s you too?  Dirtybird founder Claude VonStroke had this to say about the track: “Shiba San’s track is a real highlight from the new Dirtybird BBQ compilation, it has been destroying dance floors everywhere over the last few months for me.”

Regardless of when or where “Okay” is played, it is sure to evoke a variety of feelings and memories.  I was a little late to join the Dirtybird scene but distinctly remember losing my mind at the BBQ in Denver, Colorado with my good friends when Papa Claude dropped the track.  I wasn’t the only one either – the entire BBQ erupted into a raucous dance floor just outside of Mile High Stadium.

The composition and production are masterfully done.  From the weird yet enticing vocals to the groovy and deep bass line, to the perfectly-sampled high hat, the track exudes the essence of what being a Dirtybird is: getting low and shakin’ ya tail feather.

All that said, I would be remiss in my duties if I neglected to mention the best remix/edit of this track that has surfaced thus far: the Claude VIP edit.  This edit, which is unreleased, builds upon the original track by reordering the sequence of the lines before getting weird with the drop.  Finally, the original drop is introduced and the edit is complete. Listen to a rip of this VIP Edit on SoundCloud, and tell us which version you like better in the comments!

Still missing those vibes from East Coast Campout?  Erin’s review of the weekend is sure to make you feel like you’re groovin’ and shakin’ at the Birdhouse!
