There are so many great performances to catch at this year’s Life is Beautiful, I couldn’t do just one list!
Life is Beautiful is just around the corner and there are a ton of things to look forward to. The food lineup was recently released along with the addition of Bonobo, Classixx, Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness, and Kamaiyah to the musical lineup. Attendees can also get excited for the return of the Art Motel and Bill Nye at the Learning Stage.
The festival will be held in downtown Las Vegas during the weekend of September 23 – 25. Headliners this year include MUSE, Chance The Rapper, and Gorillaz with support from Blink-182, Wiz Khalifa, Lorde, and the XX. With so much musical talent on the lineup, it can be difficult familiarize yourself with all the artists. Here are my top non-EDM artists to check out at this year’s fest!

MGMT

It has been too long since I have seen MGMT live. Their music could easily be the soundtrack to my high school years and I am beyond stoked they’re touring again. “Time To Pretend”, “Kids”, and “Electric Feel” were on every playlist of mine back in the day. I cannot wait to groove to those songs live and I know the crowd will be vibing because everyone knows those classic MGMT tracks.
HAIM

These three LA-based sisters rock harder than any other siblings I know. They have this family team chemistry that fuels their live shows with endless energy and jam sessions. Their debut album Days Are Gone was on repeat for me for months and they recently released their sophomore album Something To Tell You. I expect they’ll play more of their new album, but I really like all the songs on it anyway.
The XX

I still cannot get enough of The XX’s most recent album I See You. It has been five years since their last album release and it came at the perfect time. They released “On Hold” as the first single from I See You and it quickly became my favorite track on the album. With Jamie XX holding down the decks and Romy and Oliver providing perfectly paired vocals and their respective bass and guitar riffs, The XX live is pure magic.
MUSE
Facebook | Twitter | SoundCloud
MUSE has long been one of my favorite bands. They were one of the first live shows I ever saw and I was completely blown away by how much noise three people can make. They jam and rock so hard you would think they had at least five people on stage.
With an incredible album selection, their sets are a perfect mix of their old and new music and are always high energy. Not only does their music translate amazingly to a live setting MUSE has top notch production, visually and mechanically.
Gorillaz
Facebook | Twitter | SoundCloud
The number one reason I am going to Life is Beautiful is because of this group. It has been a dream of mine to see Gorillaz live since I first heard their music in high school. After a seven-year hiatus, the group led by Damon Alburn, lead vocalist of Blur, has made their highly anticipated return with the release of Humanz earlier this year.
The 26-track album features artists such as Pusha T, Vince Staples, and De La Soul among many more. Each of the aforementioned artists are also performing Sunday at the festival so I predict they will definitely perform with Gorillaz to close out the fest. It will be a once in a lifetime show unless you catch Gorillaz on their tour. Who knows when they’ll release another album?
