This week marks the release of Grammy-nominee Mat Zo’s official music video for “Sinful“, the second track from his newest album ‘Self Assemble’. The track goes on to follow Zo’s premier single “Soul Food”, which was a similarly lively, nu-disco tune commended by Zane Lowe as an “absolute banger”, and secured on BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Records list.

This video is a retro fusion of the song’s buoyant disco flair with director James Chappell’s surrealist science fiction style. The story arouses intrigue when a sexy cyborg, newly awakened, saunters through a neon-lit cyberpunk alleyway to the bouncy beat of Zo’s uncharacteristically Daft Punk-esque, electro funk tune. She decidedly pivots into an underground strip club and mimics the pole dancers for an unwitting patron, killing him seductively shortly after revealing her true appearance. One might interpret this video as the fatal indulgence into one’s vices, perhaps in the form of our collective capitulation to technology. The video’s provocative tone, backed by Zo’s upbeat tune, leaves one curious and enlivened.
