Make “Contact” with Daft Punk’s masterfully crafted ending to Random Access Memories!
Daft Punk is arguably one of the most iconic electronic music groups of all time. They have influenced the scene since their first releases, and although the duo hasn’t played a full live show in years, their music continues to receive regular play. Just the thought of the duo making a live return makes me giddy, but it’s always nice to reflect on the music they have already shared with the world like this week’s Throwback Thursday selection, “Contact” from Random Access Memories.
Random Access Memories was released in 2013 to much acclaim topping world charts and winning a rightful Grammy. Random Access Memories marked the duo’s first release since they scored the movie Tron in 2010, and to say fans were excited was an understatement. From start to finish, the album is a masterful collection of tracks and sounds that showcases Daft Punk’s ability to remain a prominent influence in the electronic scene. Although the whole album puts a smile on my face, there is something special about “Contact”.
It seems the whole album builds up to make “Contact” a crescendo of an ending. Beginning with a sampled transmission, you get the feeling you are in the cockpit of a space shuttle adrift among the synthy stars. As the track progresses, there are different energies that burst through the speakers with each sound.
The drum solos throughout build the track as the final “take off” blast gently lands you in a calm space. No matter how many times I listen to this track, it evokes the same feelings and energizes me and it makes me appreciate it that much more! So take a step back in time, and listen to all the beautiful nuances of Daft Punk’s “Contact”!
