MØ and Cashmere Cat sold out two shows in Brooklyn to end the first week of The MEØW Tour.
Two Scandinavians have teamed up to bring audiences one of the cutest experiences 2018 has to offer on The MEØW Tour. Cashmere Cat‘s shy awkwardness is endearing and mixed with the spunky dance moves of MØ, and this night at Brooklyn Steel was sure to be one to remember. Back in 2013, I was set to see Cashmere Cat and MØ perform at SXSW, but the fire marshals were called (like most SXSW Shows) and they canceled the show. Needless to say, I was very excited to finally get to catch them together in New York City!
Starting things off for them was Darius, a French producer who definitely has nothing to do with Darius Rucker. He came on around 8 o’clock and really set the tone for the night. His pacing was wonderful, starting off slow and finishing on a lovely house track that really got the crowd moving. He waved goodbye and blasted “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper, which was definitely one of the highlights of my night.
After a short set break, the lights dimmed as Cashmere Cat walked on stage and shyly acknowledged the crowd.
He started strong with a chopped up version of his song with The Weeknd, “Wild Love” into the crowd favorite “Mirror Maru”. Then to get the crowd really pumping he remixed “Bartier Cardi” by Cardi B. We got our first taste of MØ as she came out to sing the title song off Cashmere Cat’s new album, “9 (After Coachella)”. After performing it, MØ and Cashy sat down on the table and I was ready for a lecture about sweet nothings from them.
The highlight of the night was when Diplo and Tory Lanez came out onstage towards the end of their performance to play their new song “Miss You”. Everyone in the crowd was screaming and taking pictures.
MØ with the live band made the evening a memorable one.
I had obviously heard of MØ going into the show, but my knowledge of her music was limited to her features. I was very happy with the live band she brought along. There were multiple times throughout her performance when I thought to myself “I have got to look this song up.”
My favorite moment like that was halfway through the act when she played the title track of her 2017 EP When I Was Young. The jazzy drop had everyone in the crowd screaming.
The only negative part of the night was the layout of Brooklyn Steel.
If you don’t mind standing in one spot for most of the night it is fine, but forget going to the bathroom after one of the acts are on. There is not a lot of room for movement during the show. This causes people to constantly be shuffling through your space as you are trying to dance. The back of the crowd can be your friend.
Overall, the event was a wonderful experience. Despite the layout of the club I couldn’t stop dancing all night! What else could you want from a show? I am so thrilled to have finally caught them both together!
