It was 15 years ago that a project began between two like-minded artists who were seeking to spread the beautiful word of trance all over the planet. This project was called Gouryella and the men behind this beloved brand were two of the biggest names in dance music, Tiesto and Ferry Corsten.
If you have been in the trance scene for any amount of time then you probably know the story of Gouryella. Recently Ferry Corsten released the long awaited album ‘From The Heavens‘, and has toured under the alias throughout the year. Now, a documentary has been announced to shine a light on the Gouryella project, so for those who may be unfamiliar with the project here is a quick recap to get us all on the same page.

The Gouryella project began as a mammoth collaboration, the likes of which had never been seen before. With three releases that included “Gouryella”, “Walhalla”, and “Tenshi”, this dream team duo seemed like it was crafted in the stars. But soon the project would hit a wall as Tiesto made the decision to focus on his solo career. So Ferry Corsten, with his passion in tow, decided to take the project on without the help of his comrade but as history would show us, Gouryella would ultimately fade away, gone but never forgotten.
Fast forward to 2015 and Ferry Corsten made an earth-shattering announcement that Gouryella was coming back, bestowing upon the trance community the gorgeous piece of work that is, “Anahera”. Since then he took the project on the road, touring as Gouryella at some of the biggest festivals on the planet and soon, the follow up to “Anahera”, “Neba” was born. The Gouryella mission became very evident in the development of live performances that urge us to take a look into creation and explore the idea of spirituality through state of the art visuals and a soundtrack that compliments the theme in the most brilliant way.
It wasn’t long before word spread like wildfire about the transcendent alias that was reshaping trance as we knew it.
Just this past week Ferry Corsten took the next step in his quest to make Gouryella a household name by releasing ‘From The Heavens’; A glorious album containing Gouryella tracks from the past as well as new productions that set him apart from most trance producers in the industry today. But, that just wasn’t enough for this incredible musical pioneer. It has just been announced that in partnership with Ferry Corsten’s Gouryella, It’s a Fine Day and Symbiotic, the world premiere of the ‘Gouryella – From The Heavens’ documentary will take place at the Hawthorn’s Lido Cinema in Melbourne on Wednesday, January 4th, 2017, where fans and industry figures will be treated to an exclusive evening screening attended by Ferry, topping off a monumental 2016 for Gouryella as 2017 takes flight! It was only appropriate to have the event in Australia as it was here that Gouryella was reborn. And if I can take a wild guess, I am thinking that this documentary will be one that places Ferry Corsten firmly on the throne as the true king of trance.

This is what Ferry Corsten had to say about the Gouryella From The Heavens Documentary:
“Telling a story through music is one thing. Telling a story through photos, video and a narrative is another. I’m very excited that I’m able to bring this documentary onto the stage and take my fans with me on a journey behind the scenes and through the process that is Gouryella”.
With the release of the documentary looming in the distance, the collection of incredible Gouryella productions both past and present, the release of his brand new album ‘From The Heavens’, and his transcendent live performances that ooze with depth and beauty, Gouryella holds the blueprint for true, honest, timeless, and undeniably dynamic electronic dance music. Gouryella is the new face of trance. A funny thing when you think about the project’s history. In hindsight, I don’t think anyone would have guessed that this project would be the one to effect so many people in so many amazing ways, simply through the genius expression of musical creativity unlike any that has come before.
Tickets for the Melbourne screening will go on sale Monday, December 19th at 10 am AEDT and can be purchased via official ticket seller Moshtix.
