Ørjan Nilsen and Mark Sixma are getting everyone Fired Up for their collaborative nilsix project by dropping its debut EP on Dreamstate Records.

Trance artists coming together to create new projects is always a treat, and that’s exactly what happened when Ørjan Nilsen and Mark Sixma launched nilsix. Both artists have seen plenty of success over the years with their solo projects, gracing some of the world’s biggest festival stages and releasing impactful tunes along the way. In 2023, the two fought back against burnout and channeled their combined 40 years of experience to bring nilsix to life, and after a string of singles, they dropped their first official EP, Fired Up.

Dreamstate, Insomniac’s trance brand, has long been a home for Ørjan Nilsen and Mark Sixma, making the label a perfect fit for the release of their debut EP as nilsix. The body of work features four refreshing tunes from the duo that are centered in the trance realm but also see flourishes of other genres ranging from techno to progressive and more layered in for added effect.

We had so much fun making music together and we really wanted to show how versatile we can be with this EP. From melodic techno, acid techno, big room to full-on trance. So, we thought with ‘Fired Up,’ we should try to combine all those styles into one track. We think we succeeded, in fact, we’re all… ‘Fired Up’ about it. We do, however, sincerely apologize for that horrible pun. Well, we hope you’ll enjoy this as much as we enjoyed making it.

“Overture” begins this ride into the world of nilsix with hypnotizing energy that commands your attention from the jump. Synths soar above the low-end bass to kick this one into full gear while the duo offers a pause to breathe before the madness continues in full force once again. The title track rears its head soon after, beckoning you to “come on” before dropping you straight into a subterranean world filled with brooding techno elements, eerie synths, and vocals that creep in to consume your soul.

If you’re hunting for bouncy, mainstage-ready energy, then “Gone” is your destination. This previously released single offers a larger-than-life soundscape that will leave you completely wrapped around nilsix’s finger as they guide you deeper into the night before dosing you with uplifting energy. Then, “Burned” closes out the four-track ride with its powerful beat that thuds forward with a heavy bassline that you’ll feel in your chest. The serene vocal offers respite from the madness, but its melodic techno nature is sure to keep you engaged.

Listen to Fired Up on Spotify or your preferred platform, and stay tuned for more from nilsix by following them on Instagram.
