Dynamic drum and bass duo Delta Heavy pens a 15-track love letter to the genre and dives into forward-thinking sounds on their latest album, Midnight Forever.

There’s no doubt that drum and bass is hotter than ever in the scene. The genre has welcomed in new artists with open arms who are carving out their space in that realm, but a fire has also been sparked in the creative spirit of established artists like Delta Heavy. The UK duo has long been at the forefront of the drum and bass community with releases like Paradise Lost and Only In Dreams. Now, they’ve dropped off their third studio album, Midnight Forever.

This fresh release from Delta Heavy features 15 tracks rooted in the duo’s earliest rave influences while simultaneously exploring modern sounds currently dominating the community. According to the duo, this album “encapsulates everything that has brought us to this point: every club, festival, and rave; every hour in the studio, whether frustrating or fruitful; every high and low on this wild journey.”

[Midnight Forever] is a tapestry of diverse influences and personal experiences that have guided our musical path. Having experimented with various genres in the past, we see Midnight Forever as our ode to drum and bass, a love letter to the music that captured our hearts as underage teenagers exploring the London scene.

The singles off Midnight Forever – “Babylon” with YOU, “Bad Decisions” with Cameron Warren, “Punching Holes,” “Ecstasy,” and “Get Down Tonight” with Hayley May – were all warmly received by fans. These tunes helped paint a picture of the soundscapes that would arrive on the album, as Delta Heavy offers everything from energetic vocal-driven bangers to those that marry in elements from the melodic techno space for a more cinematic effect.

There’s so much more to explore on Midnight Forever, though. “Never Alone” is an immediate standout as Hayley May returns for a second helping on the album. Its punchy nature is contrasted by the emotional, relatable lyrics for a peak-hour track that will ignite a fire in your soul. Subsonic joins in on the fun on “Delirium” for a ride that’s twinged with trance-like synths that will take you back to the era when artists like ATB ruled the scene. “Sanctuary” is yet another soul-stirring stunner that pairs soft vocals from Lauren L’aimant with atmospheric breaks for a heavenly ride.

Those hunting for some pure, unadulterated drum and bass goodness won’t want to sleep on “Nocturnal.” This collaborative tune with Grafix is one that you can’t help but jump around to and is sure to energize any crowd when it gets played. The same could be said for “Chasing Gold,” especially with the addition of Jazmine Johnson’s stunning vocal performance, which is an absolute treat. And the album’s closing track, “High On You,” offers one last burst of jump-up energy to make this journey into Delta Heavy’s minds feel complete.

Midnight Forever is a gem of an album you shouldn’t sleep on. Listen to it on Spotify or your preferred platform, and stay tuned for more from Delta Heavy by following the duo on social media.
