The latest release from What So Not, Motions, features four tunes that explore an array of emotive soundscapes you can’t help but move your body to.

What So Not has a storied career in the electronic music scene that has seemingly improved with each passing year. He’s leveled up his sound with stunning release after stunning release while captivating crowds at festivals and clubs worldwide. This year saw What So Not embark on the Dance Dance Revival tour to continue that run, and now he’s dropped off a fresh, four-track EP dripping with emotion, Motions.

The Motions EP is a testament to the global nature of What So Not and electronic music as a whole. It also sees the Aussie ponder questions that have sat in his mind. “What is the sound of this feeling? This texture? How do you reflect audibly what it’s like to walk barefoot in the grass on a foggy autumn morning?” he shared. “Where do I draw creation from and what are these visions representative of in my psyche? This has been my exploration through this EP.”

Motions begins with “Lights Go Out,” a gorgeous breakbeat-fueled tune that sees the Aussie team up with Benson and Lucy Lucy. Male and female vocals dominate the cinematic soundscape before it drops into a chilled-out bass atmosphere that you can’t help but bop your head to. MNDR lends her sultry vocals to the next two tunes, “Tower In The Woods” and “Slow Motion.” Her vocals are front and center on both tunes, layered over a backing ambiance you’ll quickly come to love, while IMANU adds his production prowess in on the latter of the two.

What So Not and Habstrakt come together for “Realise,” and with the addition of Maiah Manser’s gorgeous vocals, this tune is a slice of dance music heaven. The soft breaks and crooning vocals fit perfectly in place with the rest of the tunes on Motions, making it a well-rounded collection that listeners are sure to come back to again and again.
