VCTRE Digs Into His Sophomore Album and More

Rising bass star VCTRE shares his feelings on East Kings Point, comfort music, future kLL sMTH b2bs, his plans for 2024, and more!

VCTRE is steadily trailblazing a path for all artists, whether they are veterans or green. His unique approach to sound design continually sets the bar higher with each project that hits the airwaves, making him stand out from the rest. And not only does this rising producer’s music leave a lasting impact, but his stage presence provides the same effect.

Just to shed some light on how much of a hot commodity VCTRE was this year, he graced the stages of Sonic Bloom, Submersion, Beyond Existence, and many more. We can’t forget the additional stops that were added to the roster from Integrate, his crowd-favorite side project with Black Carl!. Although the year is nearing an end, VCTRE isn’t finished with 2023 just yet.

Last week, VCTRE unveiled his sophomore album, East Kings Point, and blew away the entire scene with his vast production skills. From low-end bass to melodic instruments, the less-wandered paths of electronic music were illuminated by his expertise. It’s safe to say he has leveled up a lot since our last chat together, so we wanted to take a moment to touch base with VCTRE now that his sophomore album is out.

Listen to the sounds found on East Kings Point by streaming it on Spotify or your preferred platform, and read on for our conversation with VCTRE!

It’s easy to tell from the posts you’ve made over the last few months that East Kings Point means a lot to you. Can you share what makes this one so special?

This album was something I’ve been wanting to do for years. I wanted it to encompass every facet of my sound while having a nostalgic feel. Additionally, I want people to listen to this and be able to remember their past.

Right out of the gate, “Oblivion” proves to the listener that this album is unlike anything you’ve ever released before. Dreamscapes painted by your frequencies portray the imagery of fluffy white clouds so vividly while I listen. Where does your mind like to wander when writing your music?

When writing songs like “Oblivion,” I try and put myself in a mindset of being lost in sound. This also goes back to the first question, as I want people to think about childhood memories, highlights of their lives, and, honestly, a sense of happiness.

“Hot Top” is a journey through cool tones that eventually unravel into a rapid blaze. Is there a backstory to the voyage that is experienced within this track?

I wanted to have a song that wasn’t a “banger.” Accordingly, I wanted to incorporate more instruments into the song, giving it a livelier feel. And it had to be the last song on the album to tie the whole thing together

At Beyond Existence, you and kLL sMTH had your first official b2b, which was bonkers. First off, can you explain to everyone the backstory of why you call each other Craig? And secondly, please say you’re planning more b2bs in the future.

Craig started so randomly, but it stuck so fast. Kris and I love not to be serious, so anything we can say to make each other chuckle will be said. [Laughs] And yes, we are! Beyond Existence went so well it’d be a crime not to do it again

Everyone has some comfort music they like to indulge in. What are some go-to artists that you like to keep in rotation that people may not expect?

When it comes to listening to music on my own, I go through a couple of different genres like metal, shoegaze, hip-hop, etc. I love to listen to them while going through my daily routines. Some bands that I really love are Animals as Leaders, The Contortionist, Chon, Fleshwater, Run The Jewels, Lapalux, and Flying Lotus; the list is endless.

After another amazing year for your project nearing an end, what are you looking forward to the most in 2024?

This coming year, you can expect even more music as I’ve had this album done for quite some time now, so I have been constantly writing for the past year. Also, we have some amazing shows lined up. I honestly just want to always better myself and my music. At the end of the day, I still get the most pleasure out of writing new songs and sharing them with the world.
