Rising star Lamorn shares his journey from releasing EPs to his debut album and how he captivates fans with infectious electronic beats.
A couple of years ago, deadmau5 not only played a track from a new artist on his radio show, but he promptly labeled this producer his protégé. This producer is Lamorn, and we talked to him at that time about the weight of the title deadmau5 bestowed on him. Lamorn was humble and thoughtful in that interview; he seemed to be taking his newfound attention seriously. Lamorn released a series of EPs in the intervening two years, toured with deadmau5, and worked closely with the mau5trap team on lots of new music. In short, he’s been busy!
Most recently, he dropped his beautiful debut album and announced the Forever Album Tour as well. When we saw that the tour included a stop at Brooklyn favorite, Elsewhere, we knew we needed to be there. We also knew we needed to talk to him again to see how his life and career progress. Top of mind was to see if he’d still be the humble and thoughtful human he was a couple of years ago, which he most definitely is, and we couldn’t wait to see him performing in the headlining spot with support from his girlfriend, Molly Otto and another star in her own right, Linney.
First and foremost, it was so nice to see Lamorn continue taking his career in stride and talk about reasonable goals, too.
We’ve already said this, but we’re seriously blown away not just by Lamorn’s talent but his outlook on his career and life. He certainly has high aspirations, but he also keeps it all in perspective, and that’s a good sign for a young individual in this industry. When asked about headlining a tour compared to opening for one, Lamorn had this to say, “It’s been great! Of course, I prefer headlining shows, but it’s also hard to compare opening on huge stages to headlining much smaller shows. But it’s really fun, and a vibe I really enjoy, when I’m playing to a small crowd, but a crowd that came intentionally to see Lamorn.”
We also noted that he left our interview last year with the goal of releasing new music, and he obviously accomplished this with the EPs and Forever. We asked if there was a lot of unreleased music from the LP effort, and he elaborated on what was left and what is to come.
I think I got it all out of my system with this album and I’ll be starting fresh for the next album. I don’t have much left over from that effort. There’s definitely a lot of stuff that I’ll never release but I usually end up sampling them later. I have some more indie rock tunes that I don’t think I’m gonna put out as I focus more on electronic themes for the dance floor. Again, though, I may chop up some of what isn’t getting released and use pieces along the way.
Lamorn
We pressed Lamorn on the indie rock topic, and he admitted that he could see doing another project with more of that theme, but for now, his direction will be more electronic. While working on new productions, he also tells us that he’s working on getting into some festival lineups for next year as well, with a focus on balancing producing and performing.
Lamorn also has an important bond with his girlfriend and talented musician in her own right, Molly Otto.
Considering their young age, it’s hard to believe that Seth (Lamorn) and Molly have been dating for almost three years and have known each other for many more. This is more evidence of how well-grounded Lamorn is when it comes to everyday life.
Molly is definitely my biggest influence and, right now, we’re spending nearly all our time together. She’s been here on this whole tour and that’s made it way easier. It would definitely be so much harder if I was touring alone. It’s also given us the chance to explore new music together and consider joint projects. We’ve got some stuff in the works, and more duo sets, because we have so much fun on the stage together. Honestly, we’re both like, ‘Huh, this is pretty cool!’
Lamorn
We can attest to their stage presence, both individually and as a duo. Molly’s opening act was such high energy that I wasn’t sure how Lamorn would follow, but then I was reminded of his energy, too. And putting the warm and sultry vocal style of Linney in between had a really nice effect of drawing the crowd in and giving them a bit of a break.
Don’t get us wrong, Linney’s set was stunning and captivating for sure! It reminded us that there’s more than one way to entertain a crowd, and mixing it up a bit can have beautiful results. Then when Molly joined Seth on stage a few times during his set, they dialed up the energy to 11 for sure! A few of us were talking about their performance afterward and joked that it couldn’t be possible that they are both so friendly and talented, yet they certainly are.
We wrapped up our discussion with a few more questions focused on Lamorn’s style and what he thinks of New York City.
With all the talk about indie rock and knowing that Foster The People are a big influence, we had to ask about Lamorn’s remix of “Hyperlandia,” which was already a collaboration between Foster The People and deadmau5.
I’m very satisfied with how that turned out. It was definitely exciting having Mark Foster’s voice in my Ableton project! But once I got into it I was able to be objective about the project and not get caught up my fandom. Tracks like that are really great for me because it’s an opportunity for audiences that don’t know me to hear my style.

Of course, when getting a little personal, we couldn’t help to ask this artist from Arizona how he enjoys NYC. He explained that this time, they came in a few days early and got to enjoy the city a bit. He was quite enamored with the NYC subways, saying, “This may be an everyday thing for you, but coming from Arizona, this is pretty incredible, and I loved riding them!”
As we wrapped up, we asked if there was anything he wanted to say to his fans:
I just want to thank everyone that has come out to the shows. Being my first tour, I truly wondered if anyone would show up. And thinking back to the first show in Chicago, which feels like an eternity ago and also just yesterday at the same time, I was so nervous. But there were 50 or 60 people there and since then the shows have kind of one-upped each other. And that makes me really excited to continue in this career and to keep making and performing music for the fans!

Well, we can say that Lamorn has very little to be nervous about these days, and the future is bright. The Forever Album Tour wraps up in his hometown of Phoenix next week, and we’ll all be on the lookout for new music and performances later this year!
