Eprom depicts an alternate reality through sound and crafts a unique narrative on his first solo album in a decade, Syntheism.
For nearly two decades, Eprom has remained at the forefront of innovation in the world of music and technology. He’s become a household name for connoisseurs of electronic music, and for many, his bold and intricate output has revolutionized the way we think of sound and music. Over the years, Eprom has brought listeners along as we enter further into his pocket of cyberspace through radical sound design and audiovisual art forms.
While he’s continued to put out singles and collaborative works like the 2022 album From A Vein with Alix Perez as Shades, Eprom’s last full-length solo project to see the light was 2013’s Halflife. Now, at long last, the producer has delivered another stroke of genius with the conceptually groundbreaking album, Syntheism. A prime example of his expertise in sonic story building, Syntheism draws you into his curated utopian realm that reimagines through sound what the future may have looked like had the ancient Akkadian Empire not collapsed.
As is the case with any release spanning the producer’s catalog, the ultra-digitalized soundscapes on Syntheism are best listened to with an open mind and without any expectation of one coherent genre or style. The brilliance of Syntheism lies in how Eprom’s touch is instantly recognizable, and yet it sounds like nothing you’ve heard before. Erratic synthesizers, ferocious waves of bass, and breakbeat percussion are only some of the sounds that help to depict this alternative world.
On July 29, Eprom will manifest the concept of Syntheism into this 3D realm with the one-off Syntheism Robotics show at the Mission Ballroom on July 29. Bask in the producer’s latest work of art in real time with mechanized robotics and state-of-the-art technology, and experience the cutting-edge sounds of Syntheism surrounded by a room full of electronic music enjoyers.
