Armada Music Celebrates 20th Anniversary With New Documentary Series

Armada Music 20 Years Classics is a five-episode documentary series that honors the history of dance music and its influential figures.

The biggest independent dance music label in the world, Armada Music, officially turns 20 this June, and you’re invited to join in on their year-long celebration. This week, the imprint launched Armada Music 20 Years Classics, a five-episode documentary series that will pay tribute to dance music pioneers who helped shape the genre into what we know and love today. Remaining true to their mission of spreading love and awareness of dance music across the globe, Armada also hopes the documentary will educate newcomers about dance music’s compelling history.

The first episode takes you back in time to the late 1980s when the renowned house classic “Promised Land” by Joe Smooth was released. The episode features a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the track and an exclusive interview with the legend himself, Joe Smooth. “House music, dance music, is a big love fest, and it’s great that it’s still continuing on today more than 30 years later,” Smooth states. “House is a positive influence globally.“ Armada Music CEO Maykel Piron and BBC Radio 1 DJs Pete Tong and Judge Jules also make an appearance where they discuss the impact “Promised Land” has had on dance music and their own careers.

Through the documentary series we’re putting artists at the forefront, yet again, to present new fans with the rich history of dance and give lifelong fans a look at the inspiration behind some of the genre’s most impactful tracks.

The first episode is out now for your viewing pleasure via Armada Music’s YouTube channel, Armada Music TV. The remaining four episodes will be dropped periodically throughout the end of the year. Aside from the documentary series, the label has more celebratory plans in the works, including a fan-voted Armada Music Top 100 list and remixes of dance music’s most notorious hits.
